There’s lots of malt complexity with hints of honey and warmth. I nice little hops twinge on the back of the mouth to finish. I love the malts, but i want a bit more hops. Cascades might do a lot. If this was a bit more hoppy, it might be my favorite IPA. Reminds me of New Glarus’ Hearty Hops but a bit thicker with more alcohol. (warming) kyzr (1123), Belgrade, Montana, USA

Good balance of malt to hop, with hop taking top honors to finish strong. Nice IPA. Perkeo (318), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 14, 2005 Truly fine, kind of dark orange liquid with a tan head, wonderful fresh floral and tropical fruit aromas waft up the nostrils forcefully. Tart and tangy but smooth and creamy, with peach and mango backed up with fresh bread and a solid backbone of acidity. Maybe not the most "authentic" IPA but a truly fine beer by any standards... jasonp (1509), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 13, 2005 On tap at Henry’s Tavern in Portland. One of, if not my favorite IPA sampled on my trip to Portland. Pours a dark clear amber with an off-white head. Aroma is a blast of fresh floral, piney pacific NW hops. In addition to being satisfyingly hoppy, this brew has great malt character as well - notes of toasted malt, caramel, toffee along with grapefruit/citrus and piney resinous hops. Pleasant sweetness, bitter hop finish. Very well balanced. Full, round and creamy with lively carbonation. Great lacing and head retention. I gotta get more of this shit, loved it! | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 12, 2005 Bottle poured a medum amber with a nice off white head that had good lasting power. Decent sheeting lacing. The malt profile was fairly dark and a bit sweet. Hops were not too strong for the style and had a nice flavor over all. A good offering. mjg74 (1995), La Mesa, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 10, 2005 Bottled. Pours a hazy orange/reddish color. Sweet hoppy aroma. Some pine and citrus with a bit of maltiness. Mildly hoppy with a burnt caramel flavor. Ernest (4483), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 4, 2005 Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing.
Body is hazy medium amber, bottle conditioned.
Aroma is moderately malty (cookie, toasted bread), moderately hoppy (orange, apricot, flowers, resin), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with light notes of cinnamon and toffee.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, heavily bitter.
Medium to full body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic.
Nice stuff...definitely holds true to its British styled promise in the nose for the most part. Very bitter though, much more than most British pales, but cleanly so, not heavily citric like American versions. Overall, a bit rough around the edges, but a solid performer.
