Commercial Description:
Pale copper in color, but big in body and flavor with a heady hop character. The IPA uses spring water and snow melt from high in the Eagle Cap Wilderness. Terminal Gravity used over 50% Marris Otter pale ale malt imported from the British Isles for a traditional British flavor. It adds several other malts from the Northwest and Europe. TG IPA has over 2 pounds of hops per barrel, finishing with British Fuggles for that classic aroma.

Bottled. Amber colour with a slight haze. Rich lychee-like hop aroma. Solidly malty with clean mouthfeel. Fruity with notes of cookie malt and resiny, very bitter finish.

Bottle... NTB Ernesto Festo ’06... Enjoyed this one while watching the rain come down sideways in sheets at about 40 mph. Huge waves pounding the sand. Storm’s a comin’, but it aint here yet! … Lightly hazy, deep golden ale with a large frothy, off-white head. Excellent retention. Black tea, toffee, peppery hops and a splash of grapefruit in the aroma. Malty, fruity flavor leans on the sweet side of balance despite the juicy hops. Medium-bodied and creamy with soft carbonation. Lengthy, mildly tangy, moderately bitter finish. Good English style IPA. A shout goes out to kenb for shipping me the bottle!

Large offwhite head that really lasts with a lace that wont quit. Lightly hazy, copper/amber color. Fruity, malty nose, grapefruit and buckwheat honey notes. Medium body. Earthy hops, lightly citrusy, medium sweet malts, caramel and light vinous notes. Finish is dry, fruity.

Draught Slightly hazy orange-amber beer; no head to speak of. C-hops, quite aromatic, fruity. Except for the hops, rather discreet. Cookie/cake malt hints at hidden sweetness. Getting some alcohol too, albeit not its sweetness. Burning, empty but for the alcohol. At least an attempt at balance.

dark brown muddy colored pour. smells hoppy and grassy with a few hits of sour in it. taste is pretty smooth and not quite as bitter as i was hoping it was going to be. a solid ipa, not my favorite, but certainly not what i was expecting. this is an ipa that tastes different from most ipas.

Pale apricot, hazy and topped by a good off-white cover. Mostly fruity aromatic hops hint at all kinds of fruits among which would stand out peach, apricot and tangerine. Balancing toasty maltiness comes out both grainy and bready. Gently citric with no exaggeration, growing very bready toward the finish, like pie crust and exploring perfumey soap/shampoo lavender notes as it warms. Soft light carbonation, medium bodied. Quality IPA.

Pours a lightly hazy, copper tinged, amber color that is topped by a frothy tan colored head that is quite large bubbled in places. The aroma is dominated by citrus aromatics; orange, and grapefruit are predominant, but there is a bit of herbal and pine notes as well. After a bit a dry toasted note is noticeable towards the end, which is really all that is noticeable from the malt in this beer.

The taste is dominated by the bitter hop character, which finishes with an herbal almost menthol like pine note. Lingering on in the late finish though is that same dry toasted malt note, which makes me think of biscuit malt. The beer is only lightly sweet, which tends to mute the citrus character that was found in the aroma. There is a heft to this beer though that makes it quite satisfying on the palate; the beer is a bit creamy in texture, it is quite smooth and the body has a certain fullness to it. All of this helps to balance the sharp, biting hop notes, though it certainly in no way holds it in complete check. This is a nice, easy drinking beer, but it seems to be missing out on a bit of complexity, yes even for a hop dominated IPA.
