“It is absolutly paradoxical; we cannot understand it, and we don’t know what it means. But we have proved it, and therefore we know it must be the truth.” -Benjamin Peirce That’s a little how we feel about the last 10 years and the phenominal growth we’ve enjoyed here at Terrapin. Sampled at the at 18th Richmond gathering. Very clear pale straw pour with ring of white head. Kinda dissapointing. Very much like a wheat wine with soft lilac and floral. Tastes ’perfumy’ but doesn’t smell like that. Extremely sweet and honey. Very good for a wheat wine, but I don’t really care for the style.

Congrats gang on making it ten years. Pours a clear gold color. Spice and citrus peel aroma. Flavor is full bodied smooth a little sweet and spicey. This is well made and one of the better beers ive had from this crew in a while.

Bomber, fresh. The body is a very lightly hazy, moderate golden color. Fine bubbles stream towards the surface, supplying a short, wispy head that quickly fades. Minimal, scattered spotting marks the glass. The nose is based in pale, semi-dry, bready malt, showing abundantly fruity Belgian yeast and fresh, pithy, lemon-forward hops. Alcohol is a little strong – nay – a lot strong. Coriander and dry citrus rind provide ample, pungent spiciness. The flavor is similarly structured, showing pale pilsner malt and crisp rye, sweet and boozy overall. Biting lemon pith and sharp, bitter coriander cling to the tongue. Hops are again lemony. The palate is big and alcoholic, showing plenty of heat and a somewhat astringent finish. Meh...Terrapin is capable of much better.

From the 22oz bottle. Hazy light gold pour with a thin white head. Pungent hops, honey, floral tea and alcohol in the aroma. Crisp sweet malt, honey and citrus hop notes.

22 oz. bottle from Bruisin’ Ales in Asheville, NC. Light pale yellow pour (although it appears dark orange in the glass) with a thin off-white head. Aroma of light citrus and floral hops, light Belgian yeast, and light banana. Somewhat sweet flavor of bubblegum and candi sugar with light notes of lemon and orange peel and coriander. Finishes sweet but not too cloying. A good Belgian-style ale.

coolpop (1395) - Birmingham, Alabama, USA - JUN 9, 2012
Draft sampled at Magic City Brewfest. Aroma and flavor were banana, a floral spiciness (apparently chamomile), mildly yeasty and bitter, fairly sweet, some citrus, lots of fruitiness. Long bittersweet finish. Thick, oily mouthfeel. Alcohol is well hidden. Well done.

Dogbrick (7585) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JUN 8, 2012
Sample at the Central OH BA Tasting at From The Vine on 06/02/2012: This brew is a hazed golden color with a medium white head that diminishes slowly. Partial rings of lace. Fruity and spicy aroma with some malt in the background. Medium to full body with notes of orange rinds, yeast, dark malt and spices. The finish is fruity with a grainy malt and yeast aftertaste. Above average all around.

Draft at Capone’s. Pours hazy gold with minimal white head. Nose is floral, with coriandery spice, hops, orange zest. Tastes slightly sweet, with chamomile and coriander spices, orange zest, florals, and pale malt.

Bomber from Bruisin’. Pours a fizzy light gold with a bubbly head. Here we go with the ridiculously perfumy and spiced aroma. It’s a load of flowers, candy, clove, perfume. No subtlety whatsoever. I can handle overbearing hops, roasted malts, sourness, but the whole spice and fruit thing I can only take in reasonable amounts. The first sip of this is out of hand. It’s like drinking pure flowers and clove. It’s an overbearing yeast bomb with tons of chamomile punching me in the face. Terrapin excels at American styles. I really enjoy those.

Strong, malty fruity aroma has a subtle undertone of yeast and a hint of - is that coriander? Yes, coriander! It pours a beautiful clear solar yellow with a thick, fluffy and rather persistent white head. Flavor bursts with malt, orange, apple and butterscotch with a bit of a hoppy undertone and hints of yeast and coriander. Smooth, firm texture has a decent amount of fizz and leaves a nice fruity finish that has hints of coriander and hops. Special indeed! BTW I’m drinking this while watching the transit of Venus on-line, for what that’s worth.
