Malty aromas in the toffee and caramel range. Deep brown with no head. Balanced towards the sweet end. Full bodied and warming with a balanced finish.

Pours brown with little head. Aroma is of sweet malt and some bread. Taste is pretty sweet with a lot if malt, a little hops, and a hint of bourbon. Palate is decent, but pretty sweet. For 1/3 bourbon barrel aged, I don’t get much bourbon.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Oak Tree, 1/4/13

Aroma: The nose is rich caramel malts, with some bourbon, vanilla, molasses, and a little rye
Appearance: Pours a clear reddish color with a small beige head that leaves drippy lace
Flavor: This one is heavy malty, much like the nose component-wise, the caramel leads the way
Palate: This one is fairly full bodied, with a thickish, slightly sticky feel, and minimal heat
Overall Impression: This was a pretty cleaver Barleywine. Somehow it sits there with minimal heat at 10%+. The caramel malts dominate, and the bourbon barrel aging adds a nice component. Rather good stuff. I’m glad I tried it.

Bottle from my parents, shared at Chad’s birthday. Brown pour with a white head. Aroma is lots of bready spice and tons of caramel. Taste is rye, brown sugar, caramel, rye, a little alcohol, and a good finish.

2011 bomber. Pours deep copper with thin white head. Armoma of bourbon, raisin and caramel. Silky mouthfeel with no carbonation to speak of. Flavor has sour cherry notes up front followed by heavy malt, vanilla and bourbon. Well balanced and very drinkable despite its 10% ABV.

Bottle. The strong alcohol-laden aroma wafted to my olfactory glands the instant I cracked this top. Poured deep, furniture-stain-brown, the head but a quick fizzle. Despite the fear of something akin to varnish, this drinks with quite a sweet, whiskey essence, a burnt sugar burn underneath. (#4875, 12/29/2012)

Murky brown with a decent off white head which dissipates quickly. Aroma is dark fruit, mainly raisins. Flavor is raisins with hops and a little sticky resin flavor. Body is a little thin and it finishes slightly watery for all the flavor in the foreground. Decent, but not awesome.

Drank at thirdeye11’s birthday party. The beer pours an orange-amber color with a white head. The aroma is full of toffee and caramel malt, with some nice brown sugar qualities. The flavor is a bit different. I get some nice oak notes, as well as some toffee and rye. There is also a bit of dark cherry in the flavor. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Foil wrapped, 22oz bottle. Vintage 2011. Toasted brown color, thin ring. Aroma of barley tea made of loads of toasted barley. Sweet bourbon, toffee, raisin, hints of chocolate, honey & caramel. It just smells like fucking candy. Tastes of toffee, toasted grains, oak, almond cookies, brown sugar, dark fruits. More of an English-style BarleyWine. Very soft, extrememly smooth. There is NO alcohol in this bottle at all. Perfectly balanced. (3558)

Bottle labeled as 2011. Dark reddish-brown pour with really not much of a head to speak of. There still seems to be quite a bit of spotty lacing clinging to the glass after each sip. The aroma has molasses, plum, caramel, wood, and a little bourbon. The flavors are pretty much the same; it is on the sweet side with a lot of caramel and toffee-like notes. Some cherry mixes in here with a slightly tangy finish. The bourbon, again, doesn’t go unnoticed but is mild, which was expected seeing how only 1/3 was aged in it. This is a decent all around barleywine with the mild bourbon and woody character adding another element. Seems a bit young and might be a little better with some additional time in the bottle.
