Bottle labeled as 2011. Dark reddish-brown pour with really not much of a head to speak of. There still seems to be quite a bit of spotty lacing clinging to the glass after each sip. The aroma has molasses, plum, caramel, wood, and a little bourbon. The flavors are pretty much the same; it is on the sweet side with a lot of caramel and toffee-like notes. Some cherry mixes in here with a slightly tangy finish. The bourbon, again, doesn’t go unnoticed but is mild, which was expected seeing how only 1/3 was aged in it. This is a decent all around barleywine with the mild bourbon and woody character adding another element. Seems a bit young and might be a little better with some additional time in the bottle.

Murky brown with a decent off white head which dissipates quickly. Aroma is dark fruit, mainly raisins. Flavor is raisins with hops and a little sticky resin flavor. Body is a little thin and it finishes slightly watery for all the flavor in the foreground. Decent, but not awesome.

Draught. This is a nice BW with lots of sweetness and complexity. A great sipping beer for fall in the South.

Bottle poured into glass. A good amount of bourbon/boozy flavor in this one. Perhaps even a little too much. Maybe a little more aging will do this beer some good.

Not as tasty or intruiging as the other version. Caramel, woodiness, and slight, slight bourbon are in this one but it isn’t coherent.

Very boozy, this characteristic dominates the taste. The bourbon is not as flavourful a choice as could have been made. Some rye edge, more just big malting. generous retained head on an Amber coloured body. Doug’s bottle.So-so drinkability.

22oz bottle pours a hazy brown with some spitty white head. Nose of caramel, brown sugar, orange, booze. Sweet flavor, oranges, malty, caramel, a little pine sol. Full, sticky finish.

Sampled at esbls. Mid brown and hazy. No head. A big fruity malt aroma is aggressive. A really thin feel. An odd flavor. Dark complex fruit with bourbon. Big malts. I’m not a fan.

Amber with a ring of foam. Grainy and spicy with some boozy notes coming through. Dry finish.

Not a giant barley wine fan. But this will do bourbon is strong and alcohol knocks you down. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
