Commercial Description:
This mammoth imperial red ale leads with a tantalizing hop aroma that is quickly complemented by an enormous malt backbone. Finishing with a multitude of hoppy goodness, this “Monster Beer” is truly not for the faint at heart.

Huge hop nose balances the thick, chewy malts. Orange citrus, herbal and grassy in character. Very intense. Opaque muddy brown coloured body is topped by a decent, off white head that recedes slowly to cover. Doughy yeast and plenty of fruitiness up front with complex hop profile that highlights the citrus. Grapefruit, orange, lavender, floral, earthy, a bit soapy perhaps. Huge underlying maltiness provides an ample base for the strong bitterness. Medium full body with strong, lightly prickly but soft bubbled carbonation that dances on the cheeks. Bottle enjoyed with MartinT, Olivier_MTL and Rastacouere.

Poured a wonderful deep red with a thick head. Looks great. Aromas of sweet malts, caramel and tropical fruits. Taste is very sweet. Unfortuntely the sweetness overpoweres the hop flavor. Its a good beer, but the malt is in the forefront and the hops take second stage. Nice mouthfeel and a smooth sweet finish. A good beer but I want more hops in my IIPA’s.

12 oz bottle courtesy of Santa. Caramel like appearance, bubbly tan head. Nose is sweet fruit - plums, raisins, dates - with a bit of hop grassiness. Palate is slightly chewy with mild carbonation. Smooth and slick. Everything about this beer was great except the taste; it was a little disappointing - caramel sweetness and nowhere near enough hop flavor.

A really nice red ale, sweet and hoppy. It had a really nice long head, and a beatiful amber color.

Bottle thanks to unclemattie. Pours a hazy red/brown color. Medium, dimishing head with fair lacing. Aroma of carmel malt and floral hops. Medium to full body, with a creamy texture. Tasted caramel without the expected hops, although the hops were present. Kind of like a over-hopped porter.

I had this on tap a few years back when the GA alcohol limit in beer was 5.9% Now the beer has a slightly less hoppy flavor, slightly darker, and to me... a better overall taste. A deep red color, average head, Very well done hoppy flavor (shocking)... Dumping tons of hops in your brew can taste very bad if you don’t know what you are doing... these guys know how to brew a perfectly taste hoppy beer

2006 12 oz bottle courtesy of Matt. Pours a sandy brown ruby red color with a white lacing for a head. Aroma is of sweet floral hops with hints of pineapple. Flavor is floral with hints of pineapple, malty hops, caramel and even pine. Very good double IPA, but it lacks that punch that would make it an excellent one.
