3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap @ McGrath’s. Pours a deep brown, kinda hazy, with a small off-white head. Sorta sweet, sorta fruity aroma. Big mouthful of rich, red grapefruit; a touch sour with a sweet finish. Too much citrus here for me, and that’s saying something. Malt does balance somewhat, but the tart grapefruit overpowers all. OK in small doses.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
08 vintage...8.3 abv on label...imperial red ale on label. as an imperial ipa it would have failed completely. too malty for an ipa, and almost too malty for a Ired too. no telling what month of 08 thi was bottled, and it tasted past it’s prime, with descriptors in our party of wet cardboard and dirt. had potential though. it looked and felt great. big full body. sweetish malts were bigger than the not so fresh hops (no floral, only bittering effect left). maybe this was better last year at some point. i hope so based on the rating, but it was an average beer and a subpar imperial tonight. too bad..."

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Reviewed from notes. Rcvd from my sister.
This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a nice looking bronzed orange color with a decent one and a half finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. There was some light lacing that slid into the beer.
The aroma had some grapefruity/citrusy notes that lent a decent amount of pine entering in as it warmed.
The taste had a nice sweet citrusy aspect running over my taste buds.
On the palate, this one sat at/about a nice light to medium in body. It proved itself to be somewhat sessionable. The carbonation was somewhat sharp but not overbearing.
Overall, I say this was a decent DIPA, its nothing to go bonkers about but worthy of having again.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Growler at home. Pours red with a mild head, I think the growler leaked. Aroma is caramel and toffee and piney and citrusy hops. Flavor is malt forward with the hops somewhat muted. I like it.

Pours a reddish brown with a creamy tan head. Medium amounts of lacing. Aroma of malt, caramel, hops (citrus). Taste is initially a touch sweet, then a touch if bitterness, then a smooth round malty finish. Excellent with a good burger.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark brownish red with flecks of yeast cycling around in the ale with three fingers of persistent caramel foam. Strong sheet of lace. Smells good and malty, some toffee, tea and hints of mushrooms. Also smelling some brown sugar.
Nice malty, sweet ale with some nougat tones and some nice white cake flavor. Nothing particularly complex, but the yeast seems to add a nice nutty element and this one is dangerously drinkable. Wish there were some spicy bittering from hops, but hey, can’t always have it all.
Decent enough brew. I like the malt profile on this beer, but I like a little more hop character in my Red/Impy reds.
