COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This mammoth imperial red ale leads with a tantalizing hop aroma that is quickly complemented by an enormous malt backbone. Finishing with a multitude of hoppy goodness, this “Monster Beer” is truly not for the faint at heart.

Bottle, from total wine. Pours an amber color. Aroma hits with caramel malt and some serious hop notes flood the nose. Flavor has some resin, citrus and floral hops while a big malt backbone keep this one from being a big hop bomb.

UPDATED: DEC 12, 2007 Bottle... This beer rocks!... Clear, deep mahogany ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Excellent retention. Floral, evergreen, earthy notes and caramel in the nose. Big beer! Hopped like crazy, but solid enough malt to put the lupalin to the test. A touch of caramel and a good bit of late-arriving bitterness and pungency. Medium to full-bodied with an astringent mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Finishes, medium bitter, herbal and very grassy. World class hop experience! Thanks to GoldTwins for the bottle!

Bottle acquired in trade with kp (thanks!). Poured a deep amber/copper color with a small sized off white head. Araoms of pine (fresh pine needles), oranges and some caramel. Tastes of oranges and caramel. Alcohol content well hidden.

Bottle from Captain Couger. Pours Reddish with restrained but noticeable foam, in my anti-gravity glass.Very very smooth, though hoppy. Alcohol hits you without noticing in taste. Malty, satisfying, though not overly complex. Well balanced.

Bottle from TheBeerCellar. Thanks! Pours a deep muddy brown with a thin head. Retention not so good, lacing good. Aroma is strong malt with an earthy hop profile perfectly blended in. Taste is oily hops with a nutty malt profile. Terrapin is fast becoming a favorite brewery of mine.

355mL courtesy of tastybeer. Apparently this is contract brewed at Flying Dog in Maryland. Hmmm. The pour is a hazy, deep mahogany looking opaque brune in the glass. A huge, rocky, yellow head erupts and sticks around indefinitely and finally subsides leaving big lace. Aroma is cheesy old hops, caramel, toast, brown sugar. Taste is salty, bitter, chewy, toffee, sweaty, some prickly alcohol warming coming through. Palate is watery, dry, biting.

12oz bottle thanks to CaptainCougar. Pours a rich and deep rusty red color with a standard-sized light tan head, the color of wheat bread dough. Inviting fruity hop nose, with notes of marachino cherries, blood oranges, sticky toasty malts and some fresh but light cedar. Texture is full and sticky, moderately frothy as well, with a crisp bite of snappy orange and cherry flavored hops, and a huge, heavy note of chewy, toasry Munich malts. Well made.

2007 bottle thanks to ucusty. Not really a DIPA; ASA like Port’s Shark Attack. Pours with a light brown, foamy head covering a hazed deep red body. Great lacing. Aroma of molasses, brown sugar, caramel, plum, raspberry, and citrus hops. Taste is nice and sweet with strong malts and fruits. Taste takes a back seat. Syrupy mouthfeel with nice bubbles. This is a great beer that I would drink all the time if it was available in Dallas!
