This mammoth imperial red ale leads with a tantalizing hop aroma that is quickly complemented by an enormous malt backbone. Finishing with a multitude of hoppy goodness, this ďMonster BeerĒ is truly not for the faint at heart.

Had this from a bottle, beer is nice and dark, and had a fair amount of head and is not as hoppy as I would expect, but still a good beer.

Hoppy aroma. Red in appearence with large heavy head. Hoppy aftertaste but still malts are there. Not too bad.

Pours brown to dark ruby red with a good size tan head. Smell is predominantly caramel malt sweetness with a little piney hop smell in the background, sweet floral aroma also. Taste is also fairly sweet with the hops creating a mildly bitter finish. Medium body. I could feel the alcohol doing itís job, but there was no discernible alcohol in the taste. The beer was overall very drinkable for me, although I definitely didnít think of it as a hop monster. Instead it was quite balanced, leaning a bit more to the malty side. This could be due to the fact that this is a 2005. Doesnít say exactly when in 05, but maybe the hops have mellowed if it was the earlier part of the year. This didnít detract from the beerís quality for me however, just different then my expectations from the label.

This stuff is GREAT. Aroma hops. Taste Hops. Finish Hops. Not quite a Double Dog but brought out the hop monster in me. Color was superior, body was nice and full. Try this beer.

This is Beer. Deerp red in color, strong hops in the nose with a deep bitty flavor. It is a great beer.

Nice redish amber color. Poured a brownish white head with a great glaze. Smelled very fresh of grapefuit and hops. Rich malt, carmel, and hoppy taste. Full bodied and an all around great beer for me.

Bottle (2007). Caramel, grass, and little alcohol on the nose. More malt than hops on the nose as well. Amber and orange in color with tan head. Overall I liked it, but should be called big malty monster!

My last one from beeruser. A - Coppery red thatís pretty opaque. Reddish tinged head that fades quickly and doesnít leave any lacing. S - Surprisingly strong malt presence. The citrus hops take a backseat to the caramel. A little piny but mostly sweet. T - The front end is hoppy, piny, and floral. The caramel malt comes next. None of this is overstated. Very well balanced. Overall itís a lot more subtle than I expected from the name but still not bad. M - Good carbonation. Medium body. D - This one is drinkable for an imperial but as it warms the alcohol presents itself a bit more.

Bottle into pint glass. Bought this as a single because I needed one more to finish of a mixed six pack, and I thought the bottle was fun. WOW, am I glad I did! I really like this one. Pours cloudy mahogany color with about a one finger head. Aroma is nice, fruity, and I think a little caramel. Has a lot of hops that hit you, then you get the malts, and finishes with a great hoppy finish. Really great beer.
