3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Malty_MacHops (74) - Eastanollee, Georgia, USA - DEC 8, 2011
The beer smells like toffee and toast, but with some floral and herbal hop notes. The pour is medium brown with a cream colored head. The taste centers on amber malts with a little caramel flavor the a lot of hop flavor coming on. Mostly bitter but some floral characteristics are there too. The body feels slightly thick and a little on the flat side.

Big lace, good head and brown/soda colour. sweet brown sugar nose, roasted goodness balanced by hoppy pinecones. Flavour is a mix of hops and roasted malts. a difficult style but glad i tried it.

12oz bottle pours dark brown with a thin khaki head. Aromas of toasted cereals roasted malts. Flavor is bitter but well balanced like toasted bread also a good shot of hops right at the end. Body is super pleasant and full fi ish leaves a grassy note at the end.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 ExpendableHero (511) - Florida, USA - NOV 9, 2011
This one was a bit too hoppy for me. Pours dark brown, with a white head. Strong aromas of spruce, and some light coffee. Tastes of brutally grassy hops, lots of spruce, and faint hints of coffee. The hops totally overpower the roasted malts in this beer. Ends on a hoppy, grassy kick. Too hoppy for me, but not a bad beer by any means.

Tasted from bottle into a nucleated pub glass. Pours a dark brown color with full off-white head, some retention, little lace. Intense hop aroma, along with some subdued brown ale scents: bread dough, toast, roasted nuts, apricots. Delicious complex grainbill, bittering and flavor hops, fruity ale fermentation. Here’s a nice big, hoppy brown ale, what’s not to like? I look forward to tasting more from this brewery!
3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Gregis (1250) - Shawnee, Kansas, USA - OCT 1, 2011
Pours a fairly clear dark chestnut with a fluffy tan head. The nose is a nice blend of nutty malt with some cocoa and caramel in the mix along with some spicy and faintly piny hop notes. Medium-bodied and slightly "grainy" with a mild to moderately hoppy and gypsum-like drying finish. I found the flavor to be a sizable drop-off from the promising nose. The nutty malt quality is there (sans the cocoa and caramel) with an herbal, grassy and spicy hop presence that dominate the flavor profile. Simply put, the flavor isn’t as well integrated as the aroma. It is drying, mineral-like and just too herbal, for my tastes. It seems like they tried to add so much to this recipe that it struggles to find any continuity. It’s an interesting hybrid. It’s just not one that I would likely purchase again.

(12oz bottle thanks to blutt59) clear light brown with medium tan creamy bubbles. Nose is chalky, chocolate, mild hop presence, and a bit of corn as well. Taste of moderate hop presence, dry cocoa, mild pine, well balanced and easy to drink.

Bottle. Pours a very dark brown and medium beige head that leaves good sticky lacing along the glass. The aroma is floral hops and grapefruit. Thin mouthfeel with sweet malt and light hop with a nice light bitter finish. A very good black IPA from Terrapin.
