COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Terrapin Hop Karma Brown IPA is a head on collision between a hoppy west coast India Pale Ale and a malty, complex brown ale. Brewed with 5 varieties of hops and 7 different malts, this hybrid style represents the best of both worlds. PEACE, LOVE and HOPPINESS

If I wasn’t busy trying to do actual, you know, work, I would research the history of this style. It seems to me like Black IPA’s try to be two things at once and succeed at being neither. This beer had a bit of the grainy hoppiness of and IPA, but with strong bread and malt tones. I also detected a bit of wine flavoring. Pours a reddish hue of brown. Excellent lacing. A good beer, don’t know if I would grab again, but I could say this about all Black (er, Brown) IPA’s. Bottle - Ale Yeah! - Decatur, GA

Pours a dark copper color with a creamy brown head. Nice aroma on this one with notes of chocolate, caramel, floral and citrus notes from the hops.Taste on this one is pretty good. Its a sweet brown ale with nice bitter hop notes. This beer has a subtle complexity to it. The aftertaste is very nice. I do think the body of this beer is somewhat thin though.

Bottle from smith split with the wife. Pours lovely tan amber with a thin tan head. Nose of grapefruit, toffee, and faint caramel. Taste has solid bitterness, but it is not overwhelming. Sweetness mid stream comes from some caramel and toffee. Just a hint of nut. My expectaions were exceeded with this one.

From a 12 oz bottle at Jakes on Main. Pours a cola brown with an off white head. Sweet malt aroma. Flavors if caramel and toffee with a big hop kick. The combo works surprisingly well.

Pretty solid beer. Infact, I was pleasantly surprised. Nice malty front with caramel and light roasty notes. The sweet front yields to a bright hoppy finish that is really well balanced. A great marriage of styles that is most memorable for its balance

12oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours a clear darkish brown with a thick one finger light tan head. Amazing head retention and some nice globs of lacing on the glass. A really nice looking beer. I find the aroma to be a little bit weak. Some mild citrus sneaking through with a little bit of pine along with a touch of coffee and roasted malt. There is a little citric tartness reminiscent of lime. The taste thankfully has more going on than the aroma. Some cocoa and light roast marries nicely with mild pine and and some light citrus in the way of lemon and lime. Towards the end I can pick up more in the way of darker chocolate and cherries. Bitterness is on the mild side leading to a slightly sticky finish. Overall, this is a nice beer that is a hoppy brown almost bordering on a light Black IPA. Not overly complex but a good easy-drinking beer.

Medium sized off white head with fair retention and a spotty lace. Clear, dark amber hued brew. mild nose of malts and faint pine. Body is medium with a kind carbonation. Lightly sweet malts, light hops, caramel. Unofensive and clean.Fairly dry finish, not much bitterness, decent malts. Meh. Bottle from statelineliquors.
