The Terrapin Hop Karma Brown IPA is a head on collision between a hoppy west coast India Pale Ale and a malty, complex brown ale. Brewed with 5 varieties of hops and 7 different malts, this hybrid style represents the best of both worlds. PEACE, LOVE and HOPPINESS

Pours a dark reddish maroon, with a very small white head. Smells somewhat sweet with a big malty background. The taste is very sweet, kind of bitter, with some molasses and raisins. Big dark fruit as well. The finish however was kind of bitter. Just a wierd beer. The mouthfeel was kind of medium and the aftertaste was lightly fruity. Decent.

On tap at KP’s. A brown color with a generous head. Some alcohol can be picked up in the nose along with caramel and nutmeg. Some yeast is presence in the flavor and also some nutmeg, caramel, and toffee. The finish is rather sweet. This must be an imperial brown. Good one!

On draught at the speakeasy. Pour was hazlenut with a small off white head. Nose was very piney and hoppy. Flavor is way off, Finish is terrible. I am having trouble drinking this. Not going to finish the pint. Tasted like dirt mixed with metal and plastic and little rusty particles on top. Otherwise, it was top notch.

Growler at flossmoor. Brown pretty clear color. Aroma and flavor of pine and light earthiness to it. Had a pretty nice aftertaste to it.

Growler shared at DLD. Nutty aroma hoppy with pine, and chocolate ... interesting combo. Light brown in color with a beige head. Bakers chocolate, carmel, nutty, and some piney bitterness. Interesting beer.

Growler shared at Flossmoor: Brown with a light tan head. Aroma, earthy notes, some caramel, and a hint of citrus. Flavor, caramel, piny earthy hops, a bit nutty, and on the sweet side. Pretty solid.

Growler shared at Flossmoor the night before DLD by someone. Pours pale brown with a short white head. Aromas of orange, blended with some nuts and caramel. Flavor is lots of orange and a good amount of pine as well. Caramel, nuts, and even a little chocolate under the hops. Medium bodied but a little to the watery side on the palate.

On tap at Tylers in Durham. Mostly clear reddish brown color with a substantial cream head. Caramel and chocolate in the aroma with a bit of tangerine. Flavor is citrusy upfront with tangerine dominating but chocolate coming in at the end. It reminds me of one of those chocolate orange things you can buy at gourmet shops. Really a fun beer to drink and very unique in the new world of IBAs.
