4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a white head with a sweet brown looking color. Aftertaste dominates this brew with an almost hazelnut approach. Hops are there but understated to the bulk of the rich brown sweet nut aftertaste. Really delicious. Not tremendously hoppy.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Transfer from BA review on 9-18-12-
Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass
Appearance – Served a deep brown colored brew with a one finger white head. The head faded relatively fast to leave a light level of lacing.
Smell – A sweeter and roasty aroma are most prevalent. The sweet in the nose is of a caramel, light chocolate and molasses smell, with the roasted noted being of a brown bread nature with a note of coffee. Overall, it is a lighter but pleasant aroma none the less.
Taste- A roasted malt and more herbal hop flavor greet the tongue. These are complimented by a lighter chocolate and molasses flavor. The sweetness grows in strength toward the middle of the taste as flavors of caramel join the molasses and chocolate flavor initially present. As the flavor advances further toward the end some bitter hop notes of an earthy and grapefruit citrus come to the taste and leave a semi-sweet flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the lighter to medium side in terms of thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is just a tad above average. It is a little to light in body and too high in carbonation for the dark and chocolate flavors. With this said though it is by no means bad.
Overall – A pretty easy drinking brew with a decent blend between hop, roast, and sweet. All are somewhat subdued, but in concert, they work fairly well.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a cola brown with a two-finger root beer head. Nicely balanced hop and malt nose. Slick texture with some scrub on the rear of the palate. Very well-balanced flavors of sweet malt and bitter, yet clean hop. Quaffable.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Reviewed from notes. Rcvd in trade. Consumed 3/13/13.
The pour has a dark brown color and leaves the same colored body slightly clear around the edges, two finger off white foamy head gently recedes and leaves some spider web foamy lacing in the wake.
The smell has the hops up front, subdued malts trying to get through but mostly stays underneath the hops, gets slightly nutty as it warms
The taste is bittersweet through a nice combination of hops to malts, slightly nutty.
The palate is about medium on the body, comes across sessionable, and has a slightly sweet aftertaste and a sticky finish.
Overal, whether an American Brown Ale or an American IPA, I like it for the most part, good example of a hybrid between the two that I would have again.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap at capones, pours brown with medium off white head along with impressive lacing. Aromas and flavor of nutty malt, milk cocoa, pine, toffee, and light rust. I remember this being better a couple years ago, fresher and hoppier when that batch hit. Lighter body. Pretty solid.

12 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with a large tan head that retains pretty well and leaves a lot of lacing. Clear with some nice amber hues. Aroma of roasted malts, nuts, caramel, chocolate, hints of coffee and vanilla. Taste is bready malts, mild citrusy hops, chocolate hints. Dry with a slight bitterness. Long finish of malts and caramel with hop resin. Medium bodied, creamy and oily texture, average carbonation. Excellent beer! Very well done Black IPA.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
12oz bottle. Pours with a small tan head. Roast and chocolate aromas. Very little hop aroma. Chocolate roasty and some hop bitterness in the flavor. Not much hop aroma and flavor for an IPA. definitely not a black IPA much more of an American Brown Ale.
