why do brewers match up bitter elements with sweet elements and then call them sweet? Ever picked up a 7 hour old sweetened coffee, thatís cold? Thatís this beer. If youíre going to make a sweet beer, freaking MAKE one. Donít piss on my head and tell me itís rain. OR - just say "Itís a malty bitter" Or "Itís a semi-sweet blah blah blah" But do NOT call something a "Moo Hoo" and act like itís diabetic, sickenly sweet and then give me day-old milky coffee. Pros: taste - chocolates, caramels yadda yadda. Cons: hoppy, coffee bitterness. Why? WHY? Serving type: bottle

Appearance: pours black with burnt browns. Puffy foamy brown head fades into an even layer while no lace is to be found.
Nose: malted milk balls with a touch of peat smoke in the back. Brittle, dry, roasted, smoked, and peaty. Whole cinnamon sticks, just a touch. Earthiness comes across as dried sticks and branches and bark. Black cherries in the middle with chocolate cream filled and chocolate dusted truffles. Vanilla and chocolate malted milk. Dark fruit stones, roasted almonds. Balanced and appetizing.
Palate: clean flavors though a bit thin in mouthfeel and weight. Malted milk sugars and malted milk chocolate. Hot cocoa powder with those mini freeze dried marshmallows. Soft woody finish. Lightly dry in the back, lingering atop the tongue. Dark fruit sweetness mingles with pomegranate essence, skirting the sides. An English porter in disguise? Chocolate powder lingers in breath. Malted milk chocolate and malted milk most prominent underneath. Unique tartly sweet tannic quality of grapey black cherry pomegranate extract Ė flitters in and out.
Final Thoughts: quite intriguing. The malted milk chocolates, cream, malted milk was spot on and the dark fruit was an unexpected albeit enjoyable addition. Struck me more like a porter than a stout.

12 oz bottle compliments of Beerlando. Thanks, Bryan! Pours a near opaque black with some ruby edges, very dark though, a cakey brownish head atop that stays ok sized, laces ok. Dies down a bit. Aromas are chocolate and coca-cola, roasted malts, some minerallly red wine tannins, grapes, with touches of cocoa, creamy sweetness. A bit muddled. Initial is lighter than medium bodied preaching cocoa, touches of creamy lactose sweetness, roastiness, more cocoa, coffee, touches of soda bread, toffee, caramel. Light bitterness on the backend, no alcohol. Overall, lacing complexity and body, itís ok flavorwise, but seems a touch off. Itís chocolate is the dominant factor, but seems to have an off note overall. Finish is a touch syrupy, roasty, and a bit thin. An ok Sweet Stout that lacks balance, any sort of palate fullness, and complexity. It goes down easy but has a strange off note perhaps in debt to a strange chocolate additive.

Pours dark chocolate black with a thin tan foam head. Smells like milk chocolate with burnt notes and hints of dark fruits. Tastes sweet and milky at first with overly abundant roasted chocolate flavors - followed by slight fruity bitterness (blackberries?). Creamy, creamy, creamy like a milk chocolate shake. A slight lingering bitterness. This was quite delicious - a real treat.

Aroma of chocolate and alcohol. Pours black. Rich, sweet and light flavor. Sweet and smooth finish. Interesting but I like their hoppy offerings better.

The Dan Journal #441. Tasted 1/20/11. 12oz bottle. Seasonal 2010. Pours pitch and opaque. Brainy khaki head. Aromas of faint cocoa and dark chocolate. Medium to full bodied with a nice astringency. Mild hop character with the emphasis on the chocolate malts. Definitely dark and bittersweet chocolate notes with a subtle coffee undertone. These guys make great beers!

Bottled. Poured rich, deeper brown with a creamy, darker, well-retained tan head. The aroma picked up chocolate and more chocolate, with milky and vanilla character first and foremost.. airy cocoa on the back.. just a hair buttery, but otherwise decadent. The flavor found milkier chocolates throughout, with light-moderate roast to it.. some tartness from that same character.. vanilla and roasty black patent malts gave additional depth.. tasty, but cakeiness limited drinkability a bit. Sweet as mentioned on the palate.. moderate carbonation kept it moving well.. just a little too milky and buttery for me to drink more than a bottle at a time.

Aroma of cocoa and malts. Looks dark but not thick, almost no head. Tastes of the chocolate but the malts keep it from being too bitter. Thereís just a hint of roast nut. This is one of the most balanced chocolate stouts Iíve had. Definitely buying this again.

Dark brown black pour with tan head and lace. Aroma is choffee witha nice chocolate kicker. Flavor mirrors aroma except that the chocolate out weighs the coffee on the flavor. Nice sweet chocolate. Medium full bodied with smooth carbonation. nice beer.
