4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 MPosey (134) - , Georgia, USA - NOV 26, 2010
Pours Midnight black with an offwhite head. The head reduces to a slight covering until the very last sip. Wonderful dark aromas, bakers chocolate, and malt. Initial creamy and smooth attack, lactose and bitter chocolate mid taste, and smooth, almost Hershey syrup hints to the finish. Overall a very nice brew!

Bottle… Pours black with a small, creamy, tan head. The roasty nose is chocolaty with toasted nuts and a touch of vanilla. Full-bodied with a buttery mouthfeel and stinging carbonation. Deeply roasted, sugary-sweet flavor. Finishes bittersweet – more sweet than bitter. Sort of disappointed with this one as I preceded it with a bottle of Magic Hat Howl schwarzbier and enjoyed the lager more.

Bottles from Capone’s, CAH, State Line, and Smiths. Pours turbid black with 1-finger off-khaki head. Nose is roasty dark patent malt,, cacao, blackberry. Tastes dark malty, roasty, cacaoey, with a medium palate heft, some late lactosey sweetness from the chocolate nibs, and an overall smooth experience.

Bottle courtesy thirdeye11. Dark brown color with a tan head. Aroma is sweet milk chocolate, roasted notes and heavy malts. Flavor is dry chocolate, some sweet notes and a bit of dark malts. Not bad.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 elgiacomo (734) - Ringgold/Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, USA - NOV 22, 2010
12oz bottle. Pours black with a one finger brown head that doesn’t last long receding to a ring and wispy cap. Leaves only a few spots of lacing. Aroma is all about the chocolate, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, cocoa, some roasted malt, vanilla, good strength. Flavor is sweet and chocolaty, chocolate milk in beer form, great cocoa and milk chocolate, vanilla, a touch of raisin and dark fruit, roasted malt, some coffee, fair sweetness, low bitterness. Very tasty. Mouthfeel is creamy, medium bodied, low to medium carbonation. I’m pretty sure this is the best milk stout I’ve ever had...never been a huge fan of the style but this is an awesome brew. One of the best chocolate stouts I’ve ever had as well. Hopefully Terrapin will brew some more of this for this winter as it is almost already gone around here...

Another great one from the second best brewery in the Southeast. 12oz bottle pours a great creamy dark with a lasting lacing, tastes of chocolate, not over the top and very nice, very creamy and smooth. Great Stuff.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 markwise (3803) - North of Tampa, Florida, USA - NOV 22, 2010
Wow. This is probably the best beer out of Terrapin since Depth Charge. Pours dark brown, almost black with a dark tan head. Nose is earth, chocolate, cacao, and slight vanilla. Flavor is sweet and dry chocolate and cacao all over. It is not overdone like liquid Hershey’s, and it is not too bland. Very good sweet stout. Middle of the road mouthfeel and lingering chocolate all over.

bottle. Dark brown pour with a small off white head. Not exactly what I expected. Bitter hop, bitter roasted malt, slight smokiness. Where’s the big chocolate flavor???

A nice sweet stout. It’s been a while since I’ve had the style and I was pleasantly surprised. Aroma was decent. Sweet chocolate, roasted malt and some vanilla. Pour was a nice dark brown/near black with a one finger tan head. Taste was a little weak in the beginning. Bitter roasted malt in the front then a milky sweet chocolate fills the mouth. Milk chocolate aftertaste. Decent carbonation round the beer out.
