3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Reviewed 12/23/2012. 12 oz bottle into a pint glass.
A: Pours a very dark brown color. Itís not quite as ultra-opaque as the WnB I had just before this, but itís still dark enough to block out the light. The head is a two finger mocha shade with meh retention. There is a bit of lace left on the glass, at least.
S: Surprisingly nutty in terms of aroma. There also seems to be a combination of roasted and charred malts, as well. I donít really pick up a lot of chocolate on the nose.
T: Wait, did I say that I donít pick up a lot of chocolate aromatically? Because the chocolate is really battering the palate here. It opens the flavor profile like a wrecking ball - almost as if Terrapin melted a 70% dark cocoa bar into the beer before bottling it. The midtaste brings a lot of lactic cream in a balanced manner. Itís sweet enough to make this a slow sipper rather than a chugger or even a gulper. At least the lactose never comes across as being acidic, sour, or harsh.
M: The body comes across as thicker and more syrupy than it really is, which I would attribute to the finishing cream flavor. Thereís some finishing astringency, too, but itís not dry enough finish-wise to balance it out. Carbonation is mediocre.
O: I feel like milk stouts are the Tito Jackson of the stout family - but this one hits my chocolate tooth enough to separate it from the pack. Totally rock solid as long as you donít expect it to be WnB.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Served on-tap into a snifter at Shadyís downtown.
A - Pours dark as night with a small one finger tan head, dissipating to a light tan film, leaving spotty lacing down the glass.
S - Hard to describe...I think it was a little too cold when they first poured it and I really couldnít pick anything up. Once it warmed up a bit it really didnít improve much. Faint hints of coffee, booze, and some sweetness. Very under-welming to say the least.
T - Fairly sweet up front from the lactose with some mildly roasted dark malt and a touch of coffee in the middle helping to balance some of the sweetness. Finish is pretty sweet with some lingering roast. Having had wake-n-bake a few days ago this is quite the letdown. Not one of my favorites but still not terrible.
M - Heavy body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Creamy feel with a touch of lingering roast. Nothing too special tho.
D - Not very high. This one was ok, but I just donít think I could drink more than one of these. One was even pushing it.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Transfer from BA review on 3-13-13-
Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass
Appearance Ė Served a deep-deep brown colored brew with a one finger tan colored head. The head fades over about a two minute time period to leave a moderated level of lace.
Smell Ė The smell is big of sweet and dark. Lots of milk chocolate, lactose sugar, cream and vanilla permeate the smell. Mixed with these aromas, is a roasted malt, some smoke and a light coffee smell. Overall quit delicious.
Taste Ė The taste is very much as would be expected from the nose. It begins with a good dose of milk chocolate and caramel sweetness. Flavors of vanilla are mixed with these tastes and as the taste advances further more lactose and milk/cream flavors start coming to the tongue, creating an even more chocolate milk like taste. Toward the end a light roasted coffee and char/smoke flavor come to the tongue bittering the brew ever so slightly. While slightly bittered, the taste is still overall on the sweeter and richer side with the flavor combination at the end, leaving a nice milk chocolate flavor with the lighted amount of bitter flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel Ė The body is a bit on the creamier and thicker side with a carbonation level that was rather normal. The average carbonation level kept it quite drinkable while the creamier body suited very nicely the chocolate and lactose flavors, brining a very creamy and soothing smooth flavor to the tongue.
Overall Ė This is a fantastic and tasty brew. It is chocolaty, creamy, and ďmilkyĒ making it a nice chocolate milk kind of brew. While chocolate milk like, it is not sickening sweet and maintains a good drinkability and flavorful character. This is a very nice after dinner, dessert style brew.

Bottle from State Line. Dark pour, frothy head and good lacing. Nutty aroma with mild metallic notes. Sweet syrupy chocolate, but kind of artificial tasting. Some nutty and acidic notes. Thick and coating. Just okay.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Not nearly as good as the description. Chocolate gets lost. Harsher mouthfeel than expected. Coors light colored lacing. Carbonation too harsh for this one, not sweet enough.

Bottle. Pours black. Aroma is sweet milk chocolate and roasted malt. The taste follows suit and adds subtle espresso. The palate has a velvety milkshake feel that coats the tongue. Rich, creamy, Medium to low carb. Really interesting enjoyable milk stout. I dig it.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Well, this is about what I had expected. In short, this is a very solid milk stout. In a bit longer way, itís a very easy drinking brew with a moderate thickness with a velvety feel. The flavor is pretty heavy on the chocolate, but thereís also a roasty/coffee/almost ash flavor on the end that keeps this from being overly sweet. The aroma gives off a good amount of sweetness, but itís not as sweet on the tongue. One of the better milk stouts Iíve had.
