Bottle thanks to Erin. Pours with a clear, deep brown hued body with a tan head. Aromas are nutty, earthy, leathery, dark fruits, cocoa, and a bit ashy. Flavors are of milk chocolate, nutty, cocoa, rich chocolate nutty. Fuller carbonation, medium bodied.

Dark brown pour. LIght creamy head. Roasty aroma with some molasses, dark malts, lactose sweetness. Flavor has some milk chocolate, roasted malt, sweet dark dried fruits. Good chocolate finish. This is good, but I thought it was going to be better.

Nice drinkability! Sweet-bitter chocolate in a dark chocolate slightly frothy look. Rich chocolate, somewhat roasty aromas. Nicely balance. Smooth mouthfeel. Reasonable a.b.v., satisfying.

Leighton (6989) - London, ENGLAND - APR 30, 2013
Bottle shared at Bruce’s 30th Birthday Bash - CBC Clerkenwell, London. Thanks to Il Padrino. Pours dark brown with a stern, creamy beige head. Milky chocolate nose with roasted malt accents. Medium sweet flavor with some dusty malts and milk chocolate. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Moderately sweet finish with still more milk chocolate character, still more dusty malts, subtle roast. Decent stuff on the whole.

My Bottom Line:
Coffee, chocolate and vanilla merge in this lean and otherwise roasty Sweet Stout.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the blackness.
-Carbonation is frothy and the body slender, increasing drinkability.
-Roastiness mostly appears in the second half, building most of the finish.
-Lactose and general sweetness are there, but the body is easily accessible, never heavy.

Bottle.

A: The pour is dark brown in color, almost black if you really want it to be, featuring a thin off-white/tan head. S: A mild coffee aroma, lots of roasted malts, and a mild creaminess from the milk sugar. There is actually a touch of acidity to the nose. T: The flavor is far better. Lots of sweetness and creaminess from the lactose. A nice hearty roasted character and some hints of black cherries. M: This one is medium in terms of body and carbonation. D: Didn’t have very high expectations from the nose, but the flavor was quite good. Not a bad milk stout.

Bottles from Capone’s, CAH, State Line, and Smiths. Pours turbid black with 1-finger off-khaki head. Nose is roasty dark patent malt,, cacao, blackberry. Tastes dark malty, roasty, cacaoey, with a medium palate heft, some late lactosey sweetness from the chocolate nibs, and an overall smooth experience.

Bottled. Poured rich, deeper brown with a creamy, darker, well-retained tan head. The aroma picked up chocolate and more chocolate, with milky and vanilla character first and foremost.. airy cocoa on the back.. just a hair buttery, but otherwise decadent. The flavor found milkier chocolates throughout, with light-moderate roast to it.. some tartness from that same character.. vanilla and roasty black patent malts gave additional depth.. tasty, but cakeiness limited drinkability a bit. Sweet as mentioned on the palate.. moderate carbonation kept it moving well.. just a little too milky and buttery for me to drink more than a bottle at a time.

Drake (6507) - Ivy, Virginia, USA - NOV 13, 2010
Served on cask at Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a nearly pitch black color with a large brown creamy head. Excellent head retention and lacing. Aroma of chocolate and faint roasted malts. The taste is creamy milk chocolate, caramel and a leafy and citrus hop finish. Smooth, medium bodied.
