From bottle. Pours deep copper color with small head. Aroma is sweet caramel, dark fruit and booze. Taste follows. Slight oak but the sweetness very is what you taste. A little off balanced.

picked up a 4 pack on a lark. I didnít even know they did an oaked hoppy monster. first thing is first. it pour just a gorgeous slightly opaque ruddish orange. dark red and sort of cloudy. it is pretty. I didnít get alot of awesome aroma, but i chalk that up to my glassware. i still use shaker pints at home. sorry iím not sorry. the taste shows the hops have maybe mellowed some. not sure when this was bottled, i figure the oaking process gives the hops a chances to recede a bit. I miss the assertive hops of the original. overall it is a pretty good oaked IPA type beer. I enjoyed it but i think all in all i had higher aspirations for this one.

Pours hazy dark copper color with thin off white head. Aromas of caramel, toffee and dark fruit with some alcohol. Sweet caramel and oak flavor with some vanilla and pine hops. Slightly boozy. Medium to full body with a syrupy mouthfeel.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from beernads. Deepest of mahogany/brown pour with sufficient head. Nose of dark fruit, cherry, bread/biscuit, candy syrup, oak tannins, and peppery alcohol. Sweet fruitiness with toasted malt and spicy alcohol with a pretty dry oaky finish. As it warms, even more oak character. Barleywine-esque qualities. A bit too much of the oak and booze, but still an enjoyable brew.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Justin as an extra. I'm going to seek this stuff out from now on. Aroma is of a malty, hoppy big beer. Flavor is amazing with notes of cucumber/pear in the hops and a thick, bready malt, no roast at all. Palate is rounded smooth and lacks any bitterness on the back end. This is an excellent beer.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
This smooth IPA has a dark orange color, almost amber in hue, with thin (dense) off-white head. It actually looks like itís aged. The aroma is very soft, grainy (as in wood grain) with a slight wood sourness. The flavor is totally not what I expected. It definitely tastes aged, or at least barrel-fermented. It tastes just like an aged, oaked imperial IPA. Nice, almost dull (i.e. in an aged way that still tastes classy).

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Vintage: 2012. A murky reddish brown pour with a smallish khaki head. The aroma features lots of caramel, toffee, oak, vanilla, pine, citrus fruits, and zesty rinds. Medium to full-bodied, syrupy, and sticky on the way down. Lots of sweet caramel upfront in the taste. There is a sizable oak presence in the middle with lots of vanilla extract, toffee, dates, and touches of molasses. Doughy. Some charred woodsiness towards the end. A fair amount of citrus in the dry finish. Plenty of alcohol warmth and boozy qualities throughout. Quality stuff, but not quite my cup of tea.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle into a pint glass.
Pours a hazy very dark brown with a one finger tan head. Poor head retention and a just a small bit of lacing on the sides of the glass.
Lots of spicy, earthy hop aroma with a decent amount of oak thrown in. It is all kind of muddled, however, with a little bit of toffee and caramel spread around the edges. Nothing offensive but it is just a little messy.
Oak figures very prominent in the flavor with the hops taking somewhat of a back seat. Earthy hops prop up the oak but much like the aroma, there is really no strong definition or separation of flavors. Toffee and caramel are mild in the background along with just moderate bitterness. Mouthfeel is sticky sweet with drinkability being somewhat limited.
Overall, a nice attempt by Terrapin but Iím not so sure that it works. It is just a little bit of a mess. Glad I got to try it as I normally love oak aged beers but this one just doesnít really work for me.
