4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: SEP 20, 2013 Pours the color of rust. Clear only when held to s light . Beautiful khaki/beige head. Very thick flow from the bottle. Aroma is burnt wood, resinous hops, bread, burnt biscuits, and a hint of chocolate. Smells dirty and flirty. Taste follows nose with an astringent aftertaste, less of a woody character and slightly boozy. Very smoky on the tongue. Full bodied and oily. Complexity is rather high. Less carbonation than most brews of this stature. Very good indeed.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Clear ruby with a thick off white head. Aroma is sweet malt, melon, caramel and malt. Barrel character really comes out in the taste. Finish is really short. Mouthfeel is slightly thin. Not bad.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from State Line. Red/amber pour with good head. Sweet flavor. Tons of caramel malt. Akin to Bigfoot that is aged. It’s a little too sweet, but maybe I need a fresher bottle (or even better a tap). Good but could have used more hoppage.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours hazy red-brown with a 1-finger tan head. Woody oak aroma with some caramel malt underneath. Full body, with a mild syrupy thickness and a brief finish. Flavor of oak with nutty malt beneath. A touch of caramel sweetness mixes with the wood in the finish.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
The smell is malty, hoppy, the look is a cool redish/brown, the taste is a sweet, scotch ale, with good hops and a bitter taste that lingers after the swallow. Good ABV on this on I had was the 2012, ages pretty damn good. Good beer!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Deep cloudy red-brown pour. Aroma is caramel and fruit, flavor is figs, nuts, toffee, oak, and alcohol. Complex. Impressive. On the other hand, not sure why this is classified as a double IPA... more of a Barleywine!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Reviewed from notes and sent from my sister.
This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance seemed just a tad darker than the regular BHM with a two finger white foamy head that dissipated within about two minutes.
There was some light foamy lacing sliding into the beer.
The smell had the grapefruit/citrusy aspect from the regular BHM along with a light pine, but the oak came in very subtly and made the aroma sit extremely fine under my nose.
The taste was really nice and sweet letting a nice pine underneath to balance it a bit.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium in body with a sessionability that was slightly there. The carbonation was fairly smooth.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good DIPA that I’d be willing to have again.

4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
After aging a few months, this oak aged imperial red has a bold cognac nose atop boozy wood undertones, moderate hop bitterness, and a distinct sweet crystal malt base. Cloudy, dark amber in color, it's medium body makes this big beer an easy drinker.
