4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Growler… This beer rocks!... Deep black ale with a mid-sized, creamy, beige head. Good retention. Hearty, chocolate mousse and mocha aroma – lots of coffee and dark chocolate. Full-bodied and creamy with stiff carbonation. The smooth, decadent flavor provides mocha, charred wood, tobacco and a hint of vanilla. The base beer is a dangerously easy drinker, but the wood aging further mellows any rough edges. Lengthy, bittersweet, mocha finish. World class imperial stout!!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Kickbacks, served in a Unibroue tulip. 2009 vintage. Pours a deep, opaque brown - near black - with an inch of creamy dark tan head that laces the glass for a while. The aroma is very oaky, with oatmeal, chocolate, dust, pumpernickel, and old coffee beans. Flavor of oak, chocolate, roast, oats, and rich, sweet dark bread. Full-bodied, with a smooth mouthfeel that finishes a little chalky. Mellow carbonation. Solid imperial stout; I’d be interested to try a fresher vintage of the Oaked version.

Tap @ Dunedin for Stogies and Stouts ’10.
So how does one of my favorite Terrapin fare? it’s insane! pours picth black, mocha head.
Aroma roasted/coffee, chocolate and a light oak/wood flavor that is not overly done but really brings the W-B to a new dimension.
Flavors, perfect oak aged, palate is not overtaken by a massive amount of oak but instead the aging blends very well with the base beer. Warming mouthfeel, lots of coffee, thick chocolate malt and grainy mouthfeel. Finishes smooth with light oak wood and a lingering coffee roast.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at the 2010 installment of Stogies and Stouts pouring very stouty looking with semi creamy tan head. The aroma is a bit chocolate, a bit vanilla and maybe some caramel. The aroma is a little on the light side making it difficult to pick out the competing aroma notes. The flavor however isn’t at all light. It starts out with chocolate malts and burnt malts but they’re sort of semi sweet. Just after that a fruitiness surfaces with sweet grapes and dates. By midway a caramel sweetness overwhelms the fruit notes into the finish. I didn’t get any wood treatment anywhere in this. Still, its Wake n Bake, tasty stuff.
