Pumpkin beers have been an American tradition since the pilgrims hit Plymouth Rock while Oktoberfest beers have been brewed in Germany since not long after Prince Ludwig got hitched in 1810. Now Terrapin is “carving” out our own special brew by combining these two great styles into a unique PUMPKINFEST beer...This Side Project has all the complex maltiness of a great Oktoberfest lager with the delicate spiciness of grandma’s fresh baked pumpkin pie.

Formerly Terrapin Side Project Pumpkinfest.

Pint at World of Beer, Cary. Good aroma sweet. Pie spice is the main feature. Minor pumpkin. Tad hazed brownish orange. Sweet flavor. Medium body, thick oily creamy mouthfeel, sweet finish. It’s nice, as I said strong on the spice. Thick mouthfeel. I kind of like it. I’ll put it on my seasonal radar.

Draft sample at Fishale. Overall, the spices dominate the aroma and the taste. There is some vegetal pumpkin but it’s hidden. Fine.

Pours an orange-amber with an ample khaki head. Nice, natural pumpkin pie nose. Pleasant, smooth, medium-bodied palate. Pumpkin pie flavor shows up in the flavor, albeit less than what is noted in the nose. Bitters too quickly and a little too much.

On tap 6 oz. sampler at The Bistro in Old Line Wine in Beltsville, MD. Clear amber-orange-brown with a fine off-white head and excellent lacing. Aroma of nutmeg, mild pie spices, caramel and brown bread. Taste of pies spices, orange, pumpkin and caramel Medium/light body and medium/high carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Another traditional pumpkin ale that won't disappoint. The taste is subtle with hints of clover and of course, pumpkin! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

16oz pint on tap. This is pretty weak, I think I might give up on pumpkin beers. Weak aromas, not much going on, very faint spiced pumpkin. Extremely watery mouthfeel. Faint flavors of pumpkin, toasted malts, allspice. Best thing about this beer is the deep amber color. Pass

Completely unremarkable. Other than a deep amber hue, this beer has nothing to offer for 183 calories. It’s watery, with no aroma whatsoever. Big disappointment for the price (in the Northeast). I’ll have a Sam Adams Octoberfest instead.

Terrapin Pumpkinfest has a thick, cream-colored head, a bit of lacing here and there, a mostly clear, deep orange/brown appearance, with a slight haze to it, and lots of streaming bubbles. Aroma is mainly of malt, but it gets spicier as the beer settles down. Flavor is of sweet malt, a mix of spices, and a touch of pumpkin. No bitterness, here. Mouthfeel is light and watery, and Terrapin Pumpkinfest finishes crisp and refreshing. RJT

12 oz bottle. Pours a dark amber with brown and orange hues. Head is frothy and tan. Aromas of pumpkins, spices, cloves, brown sugar. Mild maltiness, caramel, fall spices. Pumpkin on the back end. Fairly crisp Marzen finish.

Pours a dark amber with a finger of head. Nose is a tonnnn of pumpkin pie spices, almost like a potpourri, a bit bready, pumpkin. Taste matches nose, heavily spiced, some pumpkin, sweet malt. Body is a bit watery. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
