COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pumpkin beers have been an American tradition since the pilgrims hit Plymouth Rock while Oktoberfest beers have been brewed in Germany since not long after Prince Ludwig got hitched in 1810. Now Terrapin is “carving” out our own special brew by combining these two great styles into a unique PUMPKINFEST beer...This Side Project has all the complex maltiness of a great Oktoberfest lager with the delicate spiciness of grandma’s fresh baked pumpkin pie.

Formerly Terrapin Side Project Pumpkinfest.

Amber pour with good head and lacing. Aroma is primarily spice with little pumpkin. On tasting, it is apparent that Terrapin has chosen to go heavier on the spice. While not bad, I think more pumpkin is needed to balance the flavor. Light to medium bodied with a slight lingering (and distracting) nutmeg (?) on the back of the mouth. Still, one of the better pumpkin beers I’ve tried.

12oz bottle. Pours a cloudy deep orange color with a small white head. Aroma of fresh pumpkin and some pumpkin pie spices. Taste is mostly cinnamon and nutmeg, some other spices as well, pumpkin, and sweet caramel malts.

Aroma is pumpkin spice, very nice. Taste is the same. Sweet though, very enjoyable. I’m a couple beers deep though so my taste is a little off. Very good pumpkin ale though.

Bottle from Justin. Aroma was more pumpkin pie spice than the flavor. This one was definitely past it's prime. I'll have to wait to try it again next year. Ok beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours orange with a thin wispy off-white head. Notes of pumpkin, sweet caramelized malt, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation. Quite a nice pumpkin ale, and I’m generally not a fan of the style.

Very spicy aroma. Flavors are more apple than pumpkin at first. Very strong spices in the nose and on the tongue. Chemical aftertaste.

12oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours a hazy dark copper with a thin off-white head that quickly fades to some splotchy foam on top of the beer. Spices dominate the aroma with cinnamon and nutmeg being quite prominent. I can detect clove and apple along with some graham cracker. It is pleasant but a little bit overwhelming. The same spice is up front in the taste to a nearly overwhelming degree as well. It really drowns out any malt that is present. The spice eases up a bit midway through but never really enough to taste the malt. A moderate bitterness helps balance out a somewhat sweet mouthfeel leading to a fairly dry finish. Overall, a nice unique attempt at a pumpkin beer and it just barely misses the mark. If the spice was dialed back a little bit this would be an outstanding drinkable pumpkin beer.

Bottle from Knightly Spirits in Orlando. Reddish copper pour with a very small head. Nice nutmeg and cinnamon aroma. Some malt on the taste, but the spices rule in this one. Full flavor elements - very nice.

UPDATED: MAY 16, 2013 12 oz. 2012 Terrapin Pumpkinfest served in a snifter. Pours a murky dark copper with a tiny, weak head. Winter squash, pumpkin pie spices and some malt in the nose. Rather spicy flavor seems to include some ginger, cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg. A bit too spicy, not because it is simply over the top in spicing but because the spices largely mask the malt.

Pumpkin clove nutmeg aromas. Pours hazy and copper colored. Pumpkin and spice tastes. Not too much of the base beer. Good beer. Would drink again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
