Pumpkin beers have been an American tradition since the pilgrims hit Plymouth Rock while Oktoberfest beers have been brewed in Germany since not long after Prince Ludwig got hitched in 1810. Now Terrapin is “carving” out our own special brew by combining these two great styles into a unique PUMPKINFEST beer...This Side Project has all the complex maltiness of a great Oktoberfest lager with the delicate spiciness of grandma’s fresh baked pumpkin pie.

Formerly Terrapin Side Project Pumpkinfest.

UPDATED: SEP 26, 2013 Amber pour with good head and lacing. Aroma is primarily spice with little pumpkin. On tasting, it is apparent that Terrapin has chosen to go heavier on the spice. While not bad, I think more pumpkin is needed to balance the flavor. Light to medium bodied with a slight lingering (and distracting) nutmeg (?) on the back of the mouth. Still, one of the better pumpkin beers I’ve tried. Update 9/26/2013: I said before that it was one of the better pumpkin ales but found it a little unbalanced. Well, this time it was well balanced. Very good. (original score unchanged)

UPDATED: SEP 28, 2015 Pours beautiful auburn amber with large tan head that leaves some attractive skim. Clouded from carbonation but soon clears. Mild pie spice aroma strengthens slightly when warmer. Taste is light gourd, light spice, light sweetness. Slightly prickly carbonation enlivens smooth mouthfeel, but the overall effect is mild. Merciful 4.5 percent ABV adds to the appeal for a session, but the overall effect is mild lager with some pumpkin spices thrown in, not the best of either genre.

Copper pour with 1-finger white head. Pumpkin pie spices, reminscent of seemingly most pumpkin/yam beers, and a smooth lager like finish. I give them credit for combing two styles of autumn, but it’s merely another pumpkin beer.

Tap at the brewery on release day 2015. Light sweetish fruity nose, light spice, some residual yeast. Light copper color with a creamy tan head. Gentle pumpkin initial flavor, light toasty maltiness, some spice (cinnamon?), and a small cola-like note in mid and final. Thin-medium body. I’m not a real fan of pumpkin beers, but this one is light flavored, and the pumpkin note is gentle on the tongue (which suits me fine). Tasty stuff.

Amber color with big head. Fall spices and subtle pumpkin on nose. Would gace appreciated a bigger aroma. Medium body, smooth nouthfeel. Sweet malts mainly in taste with some fall spices which linger on the tongue. One of the more forgettable pumpkin beers.

Appearance: pours with a large dark beige head, the beer is a very nice amber color with hues of ruby, very clear, Aroma: pumpkin, a warm spice, Taste: sweet maltiness, has notes of pumpkin as well, no bitterness Palate: average carbonation, medium mouthfeel, minimal pumpkin aftertaste Overall: this is a nice easy drinking beer, it's sweet with out being so sweet that it'll make you sick, pumpkin is the dominant aspect ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This pumpkin poured a med/Amber colour with a nice tan, foamy head. Scents include spice, pumpkin and sweet malt with a touch of ripe fruit. First swig was a little watery with flavours of pumpkin and hops. Finish was bitter with spice flavour lingering.

Bottle: Copper-amber body, completely opaque & almost muddy. Small, gray head fades quickly to a thin collar. Aroma is heavily spiced; nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice, a bit of toasted malt. Flavor is basically the same, heavy on the nutmeg & cinnamon with undertones of allspice, clove, white pepper. Thick, malty base, finishes with notes of heavy caramel sweetness, toast, toffee, & a bit of chunky yeast. Slightly sticky body. Decent at best.
