polomagnifico (389), Saginaw, Michigan, USA Apr 19, 2008 Big thanks to ucusty for this beauty. 12oz bottle 2008 vintage. Aroma has notes of pine, caramel, malt, bread, plum, and licorice. Hazy orange/brown hue with a large off-white head that mostly diminished but left decent lace. Flavor is sweet with raisin, malt, licorice, and piney hops. Starts sweet and transitions to a piney bitter finish. Palate is full bodied and oily soft. Not bad at first but this beer did not finish well. Finish lingers and pine resin hops do not balance the intense sweet maltiness, I’m curious as to the level of IBU’s this beer has. Not bad but not that good, great start but hard to finish.
Pastor (236), Maine, USA Jul 25, 2008 Bottle poured into a pint glass produced a good two fingers worth of head on top of a amber body. The head trailed off to a thick lace that stuck around
Aromas of sweet toasty malts and piney rye with a slight wiff of hops filled my nose
Kind of sweet and malty for a pale ale. You get the rye spiciness with a nice light bitter in the end but very malt forward medium mouthfeel with enough carbonation to keep your tongue refreshed
Very drinkable brew I could see myself sucking down a few of these and feeling quite happy unclemike (258), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA Jul 20, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a clear amber color with a thin loose white head. Nice sharp floral hop aroma over the rye maltiness mixes nicely. Just a tad of alcohol on the nose. Nice thick sticky palate. The flavor has a citric hop start with the hops tingling on the palate throughout. The rye character gives the beer some heft and prevents the high alcohol content from taking over, which seems to dominate the few "double pales" I’ve had. A good strong ale with some hops, but I wouldn’t pigeonhole it into the DIPA category necessarily.
AgentSteve (621), Livermore, California, USA Jul 18, 2008 Bottle courtesy of Stfun. Pours deep ruddy brown with a thin creamy head and nice lacing. The nose is malty sweet and some summer fruit with pineapple. The flavor is similar, with more caramel malt standing out in the front, an earthy mid and nice bitter hop finish. Nice. ericandersnavy (86), denton, Texas, USA Jul 13, 2008 bottle thanks to GAManiac. poured a hazy deep gold with a beige head. aroma was that of hops, caramel, and citrus. flavor was caramel with hops. this had an excellent bitterness. terrapin in one of my favorite brewers by far. keepersj12 (384), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA Jul 12, 2008 Top notch stuff.
