shigadeyo (1399), Southwest Ohio Area, Ohio, USA Oct 24, 2006 Rating #200! Many thanks to illinismitty for this beer. I saved it just for this milestone...
Pours a beautiful deep orange/copper color (cloudy) with a one finger thick, creamy light yellow head. This turtle looks thick and so good! I just want to dive in, but first I need to enjoy the aroma which is fruity (citrus) and sweet with hints of pine. Initially the flavor is sweet, malty, a little fruity, and hints of pine/resin. Then the rye comes through as it heads into the finish. The finish is nicely balanced between sweet grapefruit hoppiness and the dry rye. Flavor is great without going too over the top. The alcohol is nearly invisible except for a bit in the finish. This brew is quite full on the palate. The mouthfeel is thick without being too syrupy. Another awesome rye beer (I think any beer with rye will make it to the top of my list!). This is an fantastic Imperial Pale Ale! Terrapin obviously knows the difference between a pale ale and an IPA. When is Terrapin going to make it into Ohio for distribution?!
12 oz bottle (2006, 8.5% alcohol). Thanks again Sean!
jkwalking05 (182), Arlington, Texas, USA Sep 25, 2008 Color is amber with a slight haze and a decent sized ivory head. Aroma reminds me of a Barleywine as does the taste. Aroma is of brown sugar, caramel, raisins, malts and a slight hoppiness. Taste is similar with some notes of toast and alcohol warmth. beergod!
