Monster Beer Tour. Rye beers have been a part of our brewing arsenal from day one. “Rye”, “Rye Squared” and now “Rye Cubed” Triple IPA completes this trilogy of brewing excellence.

Growler from Central Wine Merchants. Pours with 1/2 inch white head, few bubbles. Head dissipates, leaves some lacing on the glass. Light hop aroma with heavy malt notes. Nice bitter flavor at first, resinous mouthfeel, with a pleasant rye hint on the malty aftertaste. No alcohol heat noticeable, a nice smooth, well-balanced strong brew. Definitely on my list to buy again, I’m puzzled why it isn’t rated higher.

Hazy orange color. No head. Intense alcohol , rye and malt nose. Sweet caramelized sugar taste with a plum aftertaste. Light hoppy aftertaste.

Deep auburn color, massive nose of hops. No head. Malty base with sugar sweerness. Not as bitter as the nose suggests. Alcohol very present.

Spicy, sweet and malty. There’s an underlying hoppiness but with as big as this beer is I wasn’t really expecting anything else. Usually an ipa this sweet and malty sends me in a fit of rage but I think the rye is playing off of it and giving it something a lot of these bigger ipa’s don’t have. It’s evident in the taste because while there is a big and I mean big malt taste that dominates, there is a big tropical taste as well finished by a spiciness from the rye. Overall this is a really good triple imperial whatever you want to call it ipa. I normally don’t love these bigger ipa’s because I like mine very hoppy with almost undetectable maltiness, but this one is actually pretty solid. Probably wont be crushing multiple one’s though, I’d like to see tomorrow.

Thin light tan head of fine bubbles that dissipates rather quickly. Sweet and spicy aroma with very little hops presence for a triple IPA. Sticky malts and not much else really. The bottle says 2015 vintage but I am wondering when this was bottled and if it has lost all its hops aroma. Maybe some ginger in there. Color is a dark copper brown. Harsh bitterness up front with lots of roasted grains, tea leaves, caramel and some strong herbal flavors. Some dryness from the rye. Alcohol presence is less than expected for a 10+% brew. Finishes sticky sweetness and herbs. Totally not what I expected and rather disappointed from a brewery I really admire.

Orange pour with creamy white head and lace. Aroma is light caramel malt and resiny hops. Flavor is sweet bready malt and a good citrus bitter. Medium body with good carbonation. A really solid beer

Bouteille, 2014 vintage.

12oz bottle. Poured a cloudy amber color with an averaged sized off white head. Rye, spicy, some earthiness and some citrus. Overall, alcohol content well hidden.

Deep copper amber in color with an off white head. Strong grain and malt with a lean towards the bitter hops through the finish.

Appearance. Hazy orangeish light brown. Small head, thick lace. Aroma is tropical fruit, mango, sweet potato, . Taste is sour grape, yeast, ash, apricot. Strange combination. Some tasty, but it doesn’t all mesh very well. Feel is watery, Low carbonation. Ok.
