Headbanger (1574), Aurora, Illinois, USA Jul 21, 2006 12oz bottle-A head that dissipated rathe slow on a yellow orange body with an aroma of citrus and hops. A taste of citrusy hops and rye. Not a bad APA. ClarkVV (3578), Allston, Massachusetts, USA Jul 9, 2006 2006 bottle I believe, shared by OldGrowth on 7/6/06. Orange-amber with some lighter gold-yellow tints, soft and easygoing on the eyes. Fluffy white head is not terribly long retained (but it’s not bottle conditioned, so it’s not surprising), but does leave some patchy lace. Spicy, dry fruits bombard the nose, as very soft, well-attenuated honeyish malts soften things. Dry grains, lightly biscuity sit on the end, stiffly. The rye is perfumey and equally drying. Dry, dry, dry! And hoppy. Fruity, floral but not too bitter, just crisp and challenging. The flavor is pilsener-like, or reminds me of one, anyway. Dry, with straw-like graininess, light honey drizzled about and with light, crisp, hops that pepper the palate pleasingly. No heavy caramel, sweet base sugars or breadiness here. Just highly attenuated malts that provide moderate body. The rye works wonders as it keeps the perceived dryness level high and adds a perfumey, challenging touch of fruity/spiciness to the mix. Carbonation, though artificial, is actually quite appropriate, feeling more like a quenching lager than a soft ale. This must be just absolutely mind-blowing fresh on draught. The day that Terrapin finds a bottle-conditioned line of bottles is the day I move to Georgia! Thanks Tom (and Larry)! My score is a bit of a mix between the bottle (which has its problems with filtration/carbonation) and what I expect this beer would be without the filtration/force carbonation. Damn you Fredricks! OldGrowth (1405), North Carolina, USA Jul 8, 2006 Bottle, from trade with goldtwins. Shared with ClarkVV. Good nose, litely fruity, lemon & orange, with sharp rye. Tad hazy orangy gold color, medium size head faded quickly. Minor lacing. Bitter flavor, like aroma though the rye gets a bigger bite to it. Though it could be the mix wiith the hops. Medium body, creamy sticky mouthfeel, bitter finish. Tasty, wish I had another to enjoy right now. Thanks goldtwins mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 8, 2006 Bottle. Foggy orange-copper body with a smallish white head. The aroma is pretty solid - rye notes, fruity orange, and yeast. Quite hoppy and sharp with some cheesy yeast and moderate carbonation. The rye makes a late appearance in the finish. Interesting though not as flavourful and integrated as some other rye beers that I’ve had. thecollector (32), South Carolina, USA Jul 7, 2006 thick, rich head that left a nice lace all the way to the bottom of the glass. nice earthy aroma with a somewhat fruity finish. nice and crisp. great drinking pale. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 5, 2006 Hazy orange body, small white head (3+). Interesting grainy rye is prominent in the aroma, muted hop presence. Very light floral hints and muted sweet orange. Flavour is sweeter than expected, light orange citrus and muted grainy rye. (6+) Average palate. Interesting, but not as nice as the view of the National Ballet School next door, which had more “hops”. DrBayern (1135), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Jul 4, 2006 Clear amber/gold, off white medium head with good lace. Prominant hop aroma with citrus and pine. Medium full malty mouthfeel supported by caramel flavors. Bitterness comes into paly with the giney and grapefruit character of the cascade and amarillo hops. Nice dry finish. Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA Jul 1, 2006 Bottle from bu11zeye. Honey body with a patchy head. Nose-sweet floral hops and the smell of fresh malt extract. Taste-high CO2, woody, honey, the raw taste I associate with rye, light alcohol, straw, floral hopiness. Lots of straw and earthy notes.
