A - Nice looking beer. On the darker end of the Pale Ale range, crystal clear, and nice carbonation.
S - Has a very malty/bready aroma. Certainly not a bad smelling beer, just one that I would normally like out of an Amber rather than a Pale.
T - Malty/bready flavor with hop bitterness. Not a lot of hop flavor, but the bitterness does balance out the malty flavors.
M - Nice body for the style.
D - Very drinkable due to it’s balance. For my money, I would rather have a hoppier Pale Ale but this is a fine APA.
smith4498 (822), Miami, Florida, USA Apr 26, 2009 Pours clear orange color with off white head. Floral hop aroma with some biscuit malts. Moderate hop flavor balanced nicely with the maltiness. Medium body with average carbonation. BeerBelcher (930), Columbus, Ohio, USA Apr 23, 2009 Huh. Can’t say my experience with this beer jived with that of other users, judging from the ratings. I love rye beer and I love hops, but this beer seemed to me to be kind of lifeless and cardboard (oxidized?) tasting.
I got a bottle of this at Mac’s Speed Shop and BBQ in Charlotte. It poured a dark amber with a pretty minimal head of big white bubbles. Aroma was cardboard, some hops, and a wheat-like smell that I’d say is a characteristic of rye beers. Flavor was nothing special; a lot of maltiness, not much hop, some of that chalky-flavor/mouthfeel I’d describe as similar to other rye beers I’ve had. Mouthfeel was a touch thin.
OK, but nothing great. I had this beer at Mac’s Speed Shop and BBQ in Charlotte, NC. DerBiermeister (503), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Apr 22, 2009 Pretty decent brew from Terrapin. Its rye is enjoyable and its hoppiness is a bit potent. chandler0201 (341), Durham, North Carolina, USA Apr 22, 2009 Yellow straw color at pour with medium white head. Aroma of rye and wheat, some hops, some fruit hints. Flavor is kind of bittersweet as you definitely taste some citrus and it mixes with the pale ale style. Not bad. Lowe1983 (1029), Fairborn, Ohio, USA Apr 18, 2009 Pours an amber color with a white head. Aroma is pretty strong of rye, caramel malts, citrus hops, and some slight floral hops. Flavor is the same but a little sweeter then I was expecting. osu97gp (168), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Apr 18, 2009 Bottle. Pours a golden color with a white head. Aroma of rye and some hops. Flavor matches with some sweetness at the end. Decent beer. Adam77 (407), Eastampton, New Jersey, USA Apr 15, 2009 Slugged this playing gold in Myrtle Beach. A hoppy pale ale. Some rye and citrus. Pretty tasty.
