| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 18, 2007 Aroma is malty with hints of alcohol, biscuit and spice. The hops are barely detectable here. Big malty flavor. Caramel, spice, molasses and bread are hanging out as well. Hop bitterness hits you in the end, right when you begin to wonder where it’s at. Mild carbonation throughout. Sticky mouthfeel. A good beer, just a little too sweet/malty with not enough hop profile for a double IPA, IMO. Same "problem" as their "Big Hoppy Monster". MORE HOPS, Terrapin!!!! More HOPS! emacgee (1892), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Apr 18, 2007 Updated: Apr 25, 2007I was quite fond of this brew, everything I’ve had by Terrapin has been solid to great and this was no exception. Poured a thick reddish copper with a light tan, creamy head. I actually had to swirl it a bit after I poured it to produce some head to judge and some additional aroma. Boy am I glad I did that. Sweet, candied fruits, caramel, light alcohol, and something in there that I couldn’t describe (but it was awesome). The flavor is also very good, still sweet, bitter, waxy, some alcohol, fruity piney spicy hops. Delicious. I was coming down off of some illness when I had it so I couldn’t drink it very fast, but I can’t wait till I’m well for another go. Palate was bitter and slightly waxy with a warm finish. pnista (1008), Bloomington, Indiana, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 14, 2007 Pours a reddish amber with nearly no head at all, though white film around the edges of the glass. The nose is sweet with round caramel malt and some significant toast. Prominent alcohol slightly overshadows the hops and rye, though the two are duly noted. A little bit of cinnamon? This feels rather big and sticky with some reasonable carbonation. The flavor has some little flaws, but is otherwise good. Big sweet malt, with a broad base, caramel to toasty. The toast and biscuit is out of place, but blends with the rye to give something like rye or pumpernickel bread. Alcohol, again obvious. The finish is fruity with some spice. Maybe not a rye spiciness 100%, but rye is part of it, for sure. The aftertaste has a medicinal bitterness that I think comes from the hop varieties used. Not a bad beer, but the flavors need a little cleaning up, and perhaps a little lower profile on the alcohol would be good. 00cobraR (1103), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 14, 2007 Pours out a deep coppery color. Its acutally very attractive. Aroma is very bitter, but has a sweet touch to it. Flavor was bitter, but a bit sweet. i think that took away from the flavor, but overall this was a good brew and something that i will be having again. andyhite (293), Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 9, 2007 Bottle. Small off-white head (mostly dissapating). Good lacing. Clear dark amber body. Resin hopiness with a clean kick. Also some caramel present. Flavor is initially bitter and finishes sweet. Dry textured. Medium bodied. Clean finished beer with a warming sensation (from the alcohol). Much better than the the Rye to the 1st. JCapriotti (1378), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

Cherry kool-aid hop aroma. Some dry rye.
Some more cherry Kool-aid hops in taste, with some caramelly perfume. Very drinkable, great overall flavor. I should be more descriptive, but I drank it too fast!

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Apr 2, 2007 The aroma was fruity with a strong citrusy presence of oranges and a moderate spicy characteristic. The aroma had a bit of pepper and an earthy nature. The malt backbone was nice and had a caramel aspect as well as some rye. The beer poured into the glass hazy and nasty chunky with suspended particulates in the golden amber beer. The head was compact and well lasting to lace the glass. The flavor was citrusy and strong with grapefruit and orange. The fruit was complemented by the flavor of the spicy rye and a decent level of bittering. The flavor was earthy and had a mineral note. Caramel was present and left a sweet impression. The finish was just dry with lasting light spice and citrus into the aftertaste and beyond. The body was just full and with a moderate level of carbonation the mouthfeel was creamy. A nice double IPA, with an awful appearance due to suspended particulate matter. 12 ounce bottle, 2006.
