Boom ShakaLager is the next installment in Terrapin’s “Side Project” series of beers. This Imperial Lager is made exclusively with German malts, German hops and a true Bavarian lager yeast strain.
While 99% of the beers brewed at Terrapin are ales, we figured we should show some love to the lager style as well. Not that this off-beat, big beer is going to be brewed to a traditional style or anything.

22oz bottle. Rating #126. I want to mention one thing before I get to the sensory elements, I noticed a fair amount of rust on the undersides of the crown and around the lip of the bottle, don’t know how this will affect anything tbut I’m taking it into consideration during my rating. Slightly hazy orange/brown color with a thin dirty white head that left a nice little bit of lacing. Sweet caramel with some hops and a little oxidation, slightly metallic. Flavor is pretty good, slight bitterness and an underlying sweetness, decent mouthfeel with a moderate aftertaste, not bad. (1706)

An amber color and pours out with a big fluffy creamy head that sticks around for a long time on top. Clumps of lacing stick to the glass after each sip. Strong flavors of melon, citrus, wheat, vanilla, solvent, with a sharp alcohol bite in the finish. This is pretty heavy stuff and not all that easy to consume. It comes across as a bit medicinal with kind of an upleasant sour tang in there. Every bit of the 9 percent abv shows and it even seems like it could be higher than that. This was drinkable but I didn’t really like it.

Very average beer. The nine percent alcohol a well hidden but this is a miss for Terrapin
