Legend had is Captín Krunkles is the most feared pirate on the high seas. No one has seen him, his ship, or the great beer his band of pirates drinks has lived to tell about it. Until now. Made with a bombardment of hops to defeat your tastebuds in battle and all the black malt you can stand before walking the plank, this Black I.P.A. will make it worth going down with the ship.

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of Pinball. Pours pitch black with a light brown head. Fresh aroma hops in the nose combined with sweet roast vanilla - licorice allsorts. Medium body, again sweet roast and a dry and hoppy finish from both hops and roasted malts. But in general not a great Black IPA. 230511

sample at RBSG 2010 - Pours very dark brown and smells of pine heavy hops. The flavor has the expected dark roast malt as well as the ample hops of an IPA. The pine of the aroma continues as a tasty accent. Medium bodied. Very good.

Pours black with a tall tan head. The citrus hop aroma combines with a soft roast malt characteristic of a good porter. Hoppy, yet dark and malty flavor. Some bitter coffee on the back end. Nice medium body.

So elusive and rare! I played a losing game of hide and seek with this guy for awhile. Then I picked one up at my local store, sadly in non-growler format; although, I did consider buying a few and pouring them into a growler just to taste the totally awesome rarity effect that sitting inside 64 ounces of glass apparently has on this beer. I was too dazzled at the tasting opportunity to review at the time. From notes. Pours near black with a bit of head. Nose is some citrus hops and a good deal of roast. Taste is slightly bitter and dry with roast. Hints of coffee. Nice citrus and a bit of pine. Medium body. Pretty good. Itíd take on the good captain again. Bottle from ibrew2or3. Thanks! Nose is roasty with notes of dark chocolate sweetness here and there as well as some muted hops(flat earthy, and lightly papery notes). Pours dark brown almost black, nice head and lace. The flavor is more roasted malts, darker sweetness, some residual sugar. Light earthy bitterness, hops are flat and almost stale and this reminds me more of a foreign stout or something along that line right now. Not bad, just not really what i was expecting from a Black IPA.

(22oz bottle thanks to boomer0813) espresso brown pour, soapy khaki bubbles with nice lacing. Nose of milk chocolate, graham cracker, vanilla, biscuit, just delicious. Taste of fudge/cocoa, chocolate malt, light citrus, really easy to drink! Oily body and creamy as hell.
