COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Legend had is Captín Krunkles is the most feared pirate on the high seas. No one has seen him, his ship, or the great beer his band of pirates drinks has lived to tell about it. Until now. Made with a bombardment of hops to defeat your tastebuds in battle and all the black malt you can stand before walking the plank, this Black I.P.A. will make it worth going down with the ship.

Bomber courtesy of Doodler (thanks Scott) pourd a clear dark brown with a lasting tan head. Aromaof roastiness, grapefruit, earthiness, light pine and a hint of charcoal. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of roastiness, charcoal, grapefruit, earthiness and a hint of pine with a smooth dry lingering bitter roasty finish.

Bottle... A hard pour reveals a black ale with a huge, frothy, taupe head that slowly diminishes, but never fully dissipates. The acrid, earthy bouquet offers dark chocolate, espresso, pine sap and resin. Full-bodied and lightly creamy with modest carbonation. The flavor is burnt, acrid and bitter with a trace note of cocoa nibs. Lightly tangy; nearly non-existent sweetness - even when room temperature. Gently acidic, medium to heavily bitter finish.

22 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. This one took forever to get to Virginia so Iím glad to finally see it. Pours a very dark nearly black color with a large offwhite head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of very earthy, slighty herbal hops with a bit of citrus. The taste is earthy bitter hops with smoky notes and and chocolate in the finish. Medium-full bodied. Not quite what I was expecting with the smokiness but still pretty good. 5/17/10.

Bottle thanks to doodler. Pours with a very deep brown body and a brown head that stays. Aroma of hops, floral, honeysuckle, orange, baking flower, bread and biscuits. Flavors of chocolate, earth, biscuit, hops, flowers, bitterness, baking chocolate. Cake like in an odd way. Medium to high carbonation. Pretty tasty.

Bottle from Craft. Pours deep black with 2-finger tan head. Big piney hop nose matched by dark malt and chocolate. Tastes resiny hoppy up front, with the dark malt catching up nanoseconds later. Gets ever so s;ightly sweet as it warms, stays complex, and stays very malty. I still cannot totally resolve this style, as the hops never seem to meld as well with dark malt as caramel or pale malts, but this one was a fine example of the style.
