COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Terrapin ""Dos Cocoas"" gets its name from the deep history of chocolate and the two forms of Ecuadorian cocoa we use in this exceptional beer. Brewed with 100% cocoa powder, and aged on a bed of pure cocoa nibs, the chocolate flavor in this beer is so mouth watering it will even make Wonka jealous.

From notes - pours a deep thin dark with khaki head. Nose is cocoa and chocolate up front with caramel and sweet malt following. Flavor is crisp bitterness with chocolate. Oxidation, but still not too bad. Body is lighter than I’d have liked.

This poured a lighter cola brown with a beige head. Aroma was lighter milk chocolate, and some mild roast character, not much there really. Flavor was much the same, a bit watery, light chocolate, but not much left since this one is a bit old. Not much roasted malt either. Mediocre.

Originally reviewed: 5/15/09. This bottle pours a deep black with just hints of ruby on the edges. Very small tan head on top. No retention and very little lacing. Smells of cocoa beans, espresso, bread, and slight fruitiness. Mouthfeel is creamy, but a little wet. This is slicker than I expected it to be. Flavor is of muted chocolate flavors that are not as pronounced as I thought. There’s also a sour note on the finish. This is just a little too watery. I’ve held this bottle for a bit, and my expectations were high. This was a little disappointing. Still though, it’s not bad, just not that great.

Lacking in looks, pours thin with a drab, fleeting head. The color is nice, though. The taste fails to deliver the big chocolate flavors promised on the label; rather, it tastes like an English porter with a smidge of Nesqwik added, lacking in a firm, bitter roastiness needed to add heft. VOL 4::
Gold foil wrapped 22oz bottle. Pours like a dark porter. Black with a tan head. Heavy aroma of chocolate, cocoa powder, chocolate malts. Smooth texture, creamy flavor of molasses, cocoa powder, chocolate malts. its like a Chocolate flavored Malta drink. Medium bodied. Lots of chocolate flavor. Rogue Chocolate Stout has a beer to compete with.

Bottle. Pour is deep dark pure brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is light roasted malt with notes of molasses, brown sugar, chocolate, and notes of vanilla. Very smooth and mellow aroma. Flavor is also smooth, but a bit more robust than the aroma. Flavor starts with smooth chocolate and light roasty malt. Then a touch of dry cocoa and coffee kick in at the end. Really a pretty good porter. I like this a lot.

(Old BA rate - bottle) Near jet black color, with a rich tan head. Deep brown highlights around the edges. Touch of malty bittersweetness; a little sour; and barely a touch of chocolate. Little roasty. Very mild roasted qualities; faint bittersweet chocolate; twinge of sourness toward the end. Kinda muted overall here. Thinner than what is expected for the style; friskier carbonation as well.. Just OK; interesting at some points but nearing on bland in others. The sour notes kinda detract
