Commercial Description:
2008 will forever be known in professional brewing circles as the year of the Hop Shortage. Brewers everywhere are scrambling to find hops just to produce their standard line of beers. Some are so nervous they are even cutting back on brewing hoppy beers. NOT US! In typical Terrapin fashion we are going against the grain (or against the hops, so the speak). If there is going to be a shortage of hops, why not put them all into one huge hop bomb of a beer? We hope you enjoy our HOP SHORTAGE ALE.

This poured an orange color. The aroma was very hoppy and floral. The flavor was full of citrus and hoppy. Overall I though this was a nice IPA.

Pours hazy orange with a frothy beige head. Aroma is slightly faded but is still very bitter with grapefruit and lemon. Taste is mild hops, good caramel balance. Thick body and good carbonation. Slight bitter finish, very pleasant.

Pours a cool golden orange color. You can tell the hops have mellowed a bit in this beer. There’s a sweet malty presence that overshadows the hops.

Pours a lasting ring of beige head with a golden-amber body. Resin, sugar, and floral aromas. Floral, ripe citrus, resin flavor. Bitter finish.

Sampled at the ’Butter’s Last Supper’ tasting. Finally got my hands on a bottle of this. Pours a semi clear orange gold with fair ring of white head. Nose of bready faded hops, green apples. Flavor starts will a balanced hop, fades to a malty backbone, and has a distinctly hop bitter finish. This seems to have gone downhill with some age, but not bad, just kinda a little above average.

April/May 2008: Terrapin Side Project [Volume 1] Hop Shortage Ale has a good citrusy aroma that seems a bit reserved. There is also some honey maltiness in the aroma. The beer is orange and clear with a mild to moderate level of carbonation, and off-white head, and speckled lacing. The flavor has a sweet toffee and toasted maltiness along with a mild to moderate amount of Cascade and Hallertau-like hops. The finish kind of falls off, but there are some lingering flavors of toffee and Hallertau-like hops. This beer is medium-bodied and pretty solid overall.

Source:22 oz bottle .
Glass:Sam Adams perfect pint.
Appearance:Poured a clear orange color with a two finger off white head.
Aroma:Hint of caramel malt, but huge floral notes dominate the nose.
Flavor:Faint caramel malt base with a resiny citrus finish.
Palate:Body was a little too thin. Carbonation was solid.
Overall:Needed a hint more body to be well balanced. Overall, not a bad IPA.

Aroma is pretty nice. Big hops of pine and citrus, grapefruit. Nice fluffy head and a bit oily. Taste is balance and big on the hops. Juicy and crisp but lingers a bit. Pretty good overall.
