3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 DeadGirl (473) - La Jolla, California, USA - SEP 9, 2011
I’m trying to get back into the game hence my first rating for 2011. And here we go! Hazed light golden pour, lots of brown sediment floating in cascading waves with accompanying bubbles. Half inch white head. All poured from a 1.5 year old bomber from a not-so-recent trade: Nose of orange peel and oils, over-ripened apricot and pineapple, maybe papaya, and definitely some sugar. Flavors are near-robust, but lack that balance of hops vs. alc. that I’m yearning for. Maybe it’s too much of a malt sweetness, I can’t put my finger on it just yet. Well, it’s an old bottle, so... Light alcohol finish, but my insides feel nice and warm. Drinkability: I expected more. Pairing: Rich mango with Thai sticky rice. Rebuy: Needs a rerate. Yes. #473 on 09092011 -DG.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 DocLock (5756) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 25, 2011
Bomber. Pours turbid dark straw toward coppery with 1-finger off-white head. Nose is tropical fruit including tangerine, pineapple, and mango, caramel malt, fresh ground black pepper. Medium to hefty palate, with well hidden alcohol, good complexity, and flavors of tangerine, black pepper, pineapple, resiny sticky hops, and a crisp finish. Delicious.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 alexsdad06 (2230) - Ohio, USA - APR 3, 2011
22 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy yellow color with a medium sized fizzy white head that disappears quickly. The aroma has big citrus, resin, orange rind with some cat urine notes as well. The flavor is big tropical fruits, citrus, resin, and some alcohol. The finish adds some earthy bitterness. Medium plus body. There is an interesting mix of big flavors with this.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 crossovert (2521) - Wisconsin, USA - MAR 9, 2011
650ml brown bottle. Side Project Volume 12.
It pours a hazy golden with a hint of orange. The head is htin and white.
It smells pretty nice and hoppy. It has sort of that dank smell with some peach, topical fruit, and citrus. There is a hint of herbalness with a deep sniff. Mostly sweet and hoppy.
Taste is sweet but hoppy. Very tropical. Bitterness comes in at the end but more noticeable here is the alcohol kick. It isn’t fully hidden. Some lemon and grapefruit peel come in at the end. It is a tropical fruit bomb of an ipa, and a good one. Not bitter enough but it gets the job done.
The mouthfeel and drinkability could be better. The slightly lower scores center mainly around the strong alcohol presence. infinitely better than their Hopsecutioner.
