2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Butters (3321) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - DEC 24, 2012
Shared with Kristen on Christmas Eve 2012. Dark clear brown pour verging on black with very good light brown head. Too cold on first pour. Almost no aroma. And the flavor profile simply seemed like moderately flat sweet stout. Nothing special or peanutbutter about it. Upon warming up, the flavors and aroma come out much more, however, it’s not all that pleasant. Fake cocoa like hot chocolate powder, and a vegetal, earthy pervading aroma and flavor that I presume are supposed to be the peanutbutter, but just comes across as a weird off flavor. This has been one of my biggest dissapointments of the side project series.

32 ounce growler from Greenville, poureda dark black color with a huge kahki head, aroamas of chocolate, light peanut butter, some toabacco, and light earth. Flavors are the same chocolaty earth up front with a dry peanutbutter roastiness in the back. Nice beer overall.

Smell of peanuts molasses and a little coffee. Taste goes along with smell. Not too sweet chocolate and plenty of peanuts with coffee notes. Just not too much flavor to be obtrusive.

Good. Pours black with no head. Aroma is mostly chocolate and some malt. Fairly thin, silky in mouth. Taste is full of chocolate, but very subtle peanut butter. Finishes smooth.

Sweet chocolate, soil, and beets on the notes, I swear. Black, medium tan head with little retention. Mild tobacco flavor. Chocolate and peanut flavor is deetectable but wouldn’t be if I hadn’t expected it to be there. Strong bittersweet chocolate and cocoa finish. Alcohol not evident, thin body. More chocolatey than billed, but that is a good thing.

Bottle. The peanut butter is subtle and nearly unpredictable (to me) under the hops and malts. The chocolate is prominent though - tastes as if cacao nibs were involved rather than cocoa powder. I also appreciate the 6.7% abv which allows for a mellower brew and head space for an extra beer if your up for it.

Pours dark brown/black with a thick mocha head. Aroma has big roastiness with dark fruit and burnt molasses. Flavor has bold roastiness and some mild nuttiness...hints of cocoa and burnt molasses. Mouthfeel is medium/full and the finish is roasty with a nutty afterthought. Not really a peanut butter note to speak of.

Black pour with peanut butter colored head. Aroma of chocolate and peanut butter. Slightly nutty and grain aroma. light body thin mouth feel with peanut butter and chocolate malts. This beer has a unique flavor and good while still being very sessionable.

Bomber courtesy of CraftBeerDesign (thanks Geoff!) poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lingering ring of tan foam. Aroma of peanut butter, dark chocolate and light roastiness. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of peanut butter, dark chocolate and light carmel with a smooth lingering chocolate/peanut butter finish.
