Appearance: Standard yellow with a hint of peach body. A 1 finger white crown that rapidly dissipates and leaves little lace. Smell: I’m getting peach, nectarines, and apricots mainly. Taste: Kinda lagerish up front with some fruit in the middle and a slightly sweet honey like finish. Mouthfeel: Appropriately light bodied Drinkability: Low abv and light bodied Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 08-04-2009

Despite letting this sit for quite some time in the fridge the beer in the bottle still looks quite hazed. A vigorous pour into my large Tripel Karmeliet tulip produces a fat-two-finger thick, pale tan colored head. The beer is a hazed, honey-amber color that shows murky, orange-gold color when held up to the light. The aroma smells of lemon zest, floral notes, hay-like grain, sweet ginger notes, some boiled bean like aromas, perhaps some dirty coriander character, a softly musty nutty notes, as well as a lighter note that reminds me of the rustic, phenolic character imparted by the Saison Dupont strain (but definitely restrained).

Lighter bodied than the Double IPA I just had, but still with a significant viscosity to it that allows it to stick to the palate just a bit. The beer finishes with a soft orange-flower flavor, a lightly peppery carbonic bit as well as a hint of acidity. The acidity is even slightly noticeable up front where it accentuates a japanese-pickled-ginger like flavor that is also boosted by the sweet grain flavors. The grain character has a certain freshness to it and reminds me of dried grass, freshly ground pale malt, a touch of nutty wheat character, a raw dough like flavor, some honey-like grain character and a creaminess that seems to be attributable to the oats and rye. There is enough of a soft citrus character here that it seems like a hop influence, which is certainly nice. The flavor is only faintly musty / rustic like the Dupont strain, even less so than the aroma, but there is still a touch here.

After it warms for a bit I am better able to notice the spicy rye character in the nose and even in the flavor. The interesting grain character is definitely the strength of this beer, but the supporting notes of fruit, floral notes; sharp yeast character and subtle tartness are what make this enjoyable. This is certainly not the most rustic example of the style, but quite tasty in its own right. I would have loved for this to be drier and more characterful in its yeast notes, but I am still quite happy to be quaffing this right now.

22 oz bomber shared with the lovely Ms. Angelina. Pours a cloudy light orange yellow gold with a small white head. Aroma of honey, hay, yeast and grains. Taste is much the same as the aroma.

Cloudy yellow pour with a white head. It had a nice aroma of spices, some apple, some grains, earth. The taste was the same. The little carbonation made it easty to drink. Quite refreshing.

22 oz bottle poured into my duvel tulip glass. A- Body is a hazy uniformly translucent straw yellow color. Pours with a minimal soapy white head that fades pretty quickly. No collar or traces of lacing are left behind. S-Nose is somewhat mild and certainly saison in nature. A floral hop essence as well as a slight funky yeast come through initially. T- Fruity upfront with a hint of apple and pear and a slightly funky yeast backbone. The finish is a combo of floral hops and pale, sweet, fruity flavors. What lingers is a moderate floral hop bitterness. P- mild carbonation and relatively thin body. Minimal bready yeast consistency. O- This is an alright beer by Terrapin. Slightly above average, nothing too impressive. Its a decent beer overall but it doesn’t really meet my standards for the style. Could be much more complex and less ho-hum. Bomber. Poured hazy, hearty medium golden with a light off-white head. The aroma picked up sweet, toasty medium-skinned fruits backed by lots of honey.. spicy and earthy accents.. more sour as it warmed up. The flavor found metallic sourness throughout paired with a peppery yeast strain.. honey and lesser fruity sweetness backed it up.. very spicy and sour on the finish, with decent balance at best between the two. Medium-bodied with low carbonation on the palate.. too sweet for the style and too hot at the end.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. The smell is lemon, citrus, fruits, yeast, tart, and wheat. The look is clear, yellow, and not much head. The taste is yeast, slight tartness, wheat, and fruits.

Poured from the bomber to a light watery-yellow appearance with a thin white head that dissipated quickly and left little lacing. Aroma was a not so pleasant mix of apples and floral scents. Mouthfeel was thin and both taste and finish were slightly on the dishwater side. Not one of Terrapin’s best by any means.

(bottle - 22 oz) Clear gold with a thin white head. Aroma is funky, grassy, spicy and sweet all with a little citrus mixed in. Dry and spicy at the start with a very earthy followup. The spice comes in a bit at the middle but is mainly taken over by a thick and slightly cloying grassy note. Some damp barnyard notes near the middle with a dry and funky finish.
