COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Volume 5: This new age beer style is a fusion of two great brewing traditions that are worlds apart - a hoppy American Double IPA and a classic Belgian Tripel. Beware the Gnome in the funny green hat!

Hazy bright orange pour with a fluffy white head. Yeast and light hops on the nose. Citrus, tropical fruits and yeast. A little tannic and slightly alcoholic at times

Draft at the 7th ann party. Reminiscent of stones cali-belgique. Nice, but I’m not a huge fan of the style.

On tap @ Datz..I love this beer! so much better than the other side projects. It taste exactly how it sounds Belgian funk with lots of hops. It doesn’t have the typical Belgian head that you would expect. Hop Heads like myself will love it.

[Bottle, thanks CaptainCougar!] Pours gold with a tiny white head. Aroma is very yeast, with banana and not a whole lot else. The taste is pretty good, quite hoppy, some alcohol (a little hot at times), and malt towards the back end. Good mouthfeel and has a long finish. Really quite a simple beer, and although there was a good deal of hop influence, I expected quite a bit more for a IIPA. Not something i would go out of my way to try again.

UPDATED: APR 24, 2009 Clearish orange brown, smallish white head. The aroma is definately more double IPA than Belgian - floral hops, with some yeasty notes in the background. Very tasty - crisp at first, then some sweet notes. The flavor is similiar to the aroma in that the IPA side of the equation dominates, and the Belgian side makes a more subtle contribution.

bomber... poured into a snifter... was a little confused with this one... drinks much more like a Belgian Tripel than a IIPA. I see where they are going with this, but to call it a hoppy American IIPA is ridiculous. I really don’t get much hops at all.... the aroma is pure banana and Belgian yeast. Don’t get me wrong, it is a nice beer, but not what it is billed.... they should have labeled this a Tripel and left it at that. There are some nice qualities to it... medium body with some light fruit up front and on the sides.. mainly banana, lemon, and a touch of grapefruit. over the top a more bready body takes over with some malt and a touch of bitterness. the finish is where you will find some of the hops.... not much but it does have a bit of bitterness... in terms of hops, this doesn’t even rival an IPA from most craft breweries. I really wanted to rate this higher, but it is so poor to it’s stated style. They should have stuck with a single IPA with a Belgian twist.

Im not an IPA fan as we know by now, but I am however a big belgian fan. This is a great combo of the both. A little too hoppy for me to drink a lot of it, but I could enjoy a cold draft. Try it out it is interesting.

22oz - Courtesy of TheBeerSommelier. Thanks, Matt! Hazed dark gold, creamy white head. Sharply spiced tangerine cream aromas warm to soft swirls of yeasty grass and pink cotton candy. Peppery citrus and spice notes balance well on a candied-yeast backbone. Nice balance throughout. Lighter side of medium bodied, medium carbonation, bittersweet finish. A well done hybrid...

Bottle thanks to BeerSommelier. Pours a hazy golden orange with a small white head. Aroma of light citrusy hops followed by sweet Belgian malt. Flavor initially of tropical fruits and citrusy hops with a sweet yeasty and melony finish. Quite pleasant and easy drinking. 7/4/8/4/14 (3.7/5)

Bottle. We gotta do something about this Belgian IPA category because this just isn’t a DIPA... In any case, aroma of marmalade, grapefruit, lime, anise, lemon, clove, banana, quite complex and elegant. Flavor is just kind of muddy to me, as with many of this quasi-style. The great citrus tones of the hops just don’t pop amidst the more typically Belgian characteristics. For me the result is out-of-place bitterness clashing with spicy phenols as an unrelated doughy malt sits on the tongue as a bystander to the war. ...Or something like that. It’s not terrible, I just got a little into my commentary.
