Volume 5: This new age beer style is a fusion of two great brewing traditions that are worlds apart - a hoppy American Double IPA and a classic Belgian Tripel. Beware the Gnome in the funny green hat!

Pours a subtle hazy amber with a thin lace of off-white head. Aroma is banana and cloves with also some pungent citrus and pineapple esters. The flavor is good but the bitter IPA tendencies seem to clash with the sweetness of the belgian triple. This opposition does tend to wear down a bit after the beer has been allowed to breathe and mellow out a bit.

Honey brown pour, smallish head. Aroma of both belgian esters and floral hops. Flavor was honey, belgian yeast and brown sugar. A little too sweet and syrupy. A noticeable alcohol burn. Not bad.

30/VI/14 - 33cl bottle @ Bouvier’s place, football WC match Belgium-USA - BB: n/a, 2013 vintage (2014-691) Thanks to Dominiek for the bottle!

Little cloudy red amber beer, big fizzy yellowish head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: fruity, malty, caramel, quite some honey, soapy touch, bit of exotic fruits. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bitter start, citrus, some honey, caramel, sourish, bit oxidized, bitter and grassy. Aftertaste: bitter hops, some citrus, floral, some honey, oxidized, piny touch, resinous, some caramel, honey, alcohol touch. Too old, alas... Probably very good when fresh...

Pours hazy Carmel with slightly off white head. Bright and crisp aroma with slight yeast scent. Slightly sweet but mostly bright bitter taste. Great mouth feel and very easy to drink. Hides the alcohol content well.

Pours a carmel color with a short head. Doughy aromas, alcohol is well hidden. Medium bodied, has a slight bitter finish. Pretty tasty for how strong it is 9.6%.

A- Pours a brownish orange color reminiscent of urine the morning after a long night of drinking with little to no head. S- The smell punches you in the face with awesomeness. Tons of pine, orange zest, light fruit and spicy belgian yeast undertones. T- Whoa! An extremely strange combo that I think works very well. Starts off like a typical DIPA with a wave of piny hops and a strong bready malt backbone but is immediately rounded off with spicy belgian blonde characteristics and ends very smooth with little to no hop bitterness. Rarely do I taste a beer that really tastes much different than anything i’ve ever had but this one did just that. M- Thick with medium carbonation. D- This was an extremely interesting brew to wrap your head around. It definitely isn’t an everyday beer but if you are looking to enjoy something new and different pick up a bottle and you won’t be disappointed.

Bottle---candy orange color with a small head and no real lacing. Aroma is fruity, mostly mandarin, of course, I just had a mandarin so I could be influenced there. Toss in some soapy aroma as the drink warms. Sticky sweet flavor of light hops with some yeast. Catching a warm alcohol finish. Appalachian Vinter.

Combination of two of my favorite styles and a very interesting take it is. A one finger head and a light amber color are followed by a smooth and hoppy finish. More to come.

Clear darkish golden with a thin laceful white head. Nose is sweet and quasi earthy with a semi-fruity/semi-bubblegumy Belgo yeast tone. Taste is sweet with some earthy pale toffee notes, tangerine-esque yeast esters, dough, and a soft sweet pale ending. Not shabby, but forgettable.

Labelled as Monks Revenge. Aroma us apricot, orange, yeast, mold. Look is cloudy yellow-orange. Small head, but creamy looking....lasting. a touch of vinegar. Some Wang, but the sweet fruitiness and creamyness keep it pleasant. Medium carbonation. A nice Belgian.

Monks revenge is a great combo beer. Combining Belgian and IPA good appearance and aroma with layers of flavor.
