Volume 19: Mosaic Single Hopped Rye Ale. Brewer “Spike” has an affinity towards rye malt, so this comes a no surprise. Freshly harvested from Hop Breeding Company, LLC in Yakima Valley, the hops used in Side Project 19 “Mosaic” came freshly picked from the fields of Perrault Farms, to our brewery, and into your glass. Known as hop HBC 369 before official naming in 2011, Mosaic is the daughter of Simcoe (YCR 14) and a Nugget-derived male. To get the best of all worlds from this new Humulus lupus, we used 100% Mosaic throughout the brewing process to utilize all the flavor and aroma that this world-class hop has to offer.

The mosaic hops are fantastic in this rye ale. Pours a nice red color. Lots of citrus and grass on the nose. Piney grass and grapefruit citrus on the palate, balanced out with a nice spiciness from the rye. Great IPA.

Earthy. Red grapes, sweet aromas, dark red fruit. Flavor is the same. Smooth, Velvety. Really delicious.

Pours deep amber into a Sam glass. Tan head with good retention recedes to coat surface. Resin and meat aromas. Thin with sour meaty caramel upfront turning to mild resin in the medium length finish.

Courtesy of TheHOFF43. 12oz bottle pours with a clear copper body that has amber hues and supports a thin tan head. The modest aroma offers up ripe red grapes, raspberry gummy bears and some malts, a dash of pine and a sense of earthy tea well off in the background. The taste delivers slivers of malt sweetened fruity hops that are like the nose sort of ripe juicy red grape like. It then moves into a moderate level of resiny pine hop bitterness mixed with malts and a mild drying earthy tea sensation. Tasty indeed.

Great aroma of hops, dried fruit, and a trace of citrus. Great taste, of fruit and nuts with just a hint of bitterness. A creamy slightly bitter palate.

Weird beer. Has slight pleasant hints of peach, perhaps, and a bit of spice from the rye but the finish is harsh and I’m not sure why but theres an unpleasant flavor from the weird sweetness midpalate.

This one poured a hazy orange color with a beige head. Aroma was of grassy and fruity hops, toasted malt, and caramel. Flavor was similar, some rye, mosaic wasnt represented here very well really.

Bottle. Rusty color with a nice hop aroma balanced with the rye. Medium body, flavorful finish. Very solid IPA.

Last night with Matt. Nice rye, decent hop kick with plenty of malt character. Had this late in the night so my palate was pretty beat up, I'd like to try it again.
