Volume 19: Mosaic Single Hopped Rye Ale. Brewer “Spike” has an affinity towards rye malt, so this comes a no surprise. Freshly harvested from Hop Breeding Company, LLC in Yakima Valley, the hops used in Side Project 19 “Mosaic” came freshly picked from the fields of Perrault Farms, to our brewery, and into your glass. Known as hop HBC 369 before official naming in 2011, Mosaic is the daughter of Simcoe (YCR 14) and a Nugget-derived male. To get the best of all worlds from this new Humulus lupus, we used 100% Mosaic throughout the brewing process to utilize all the flavor and aroma that this world-class hop has to offer.

Poured from a 22 not much head with little brownish white lacing. Aroma is very nice a bit citric sweet fruit and hoppy. Taste is not what I expected mostly just rye malt flavors, not very hoppy bitter or citric. Sweet citric lingers faintly on palate, overall its pretty good but not great.

On tap at The Brass Tap poured a clear reddish amber with a small lasting amber head. Aromas of caramel, dank bud, earthiness, grapefruit and light pine. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of bread, earthiness, dank bud and grapefruit with a smooth dry lingering bitter finish.

This is a red rye IPA and is full of hops. This beer is red and has a decent palate. The aroma is not noticable.

Appearance is excellent, a huge foamy, frothy cream-colored head with lots of lace and a nice clear copper red color. Aroma is great too with a Resiny citrus weed-like hop upfront and caramel malt in the back. I wish the flavor was like the nose, but it's not; The sweetness of the grains take over and then you get some hop flavor and bitterness but they don't balance very well or Mesh. Bodies okay.

Pint pour, much darker than i expected. Then I saw it was a red IPA. Nose is plenty of citrus and some mild rye spice. Flavor has plenty of citrus and zest with amber malt and caramel notes. It’s honestly not bad but much heavier than I was hoping for, but it’s definitely drinkable.

Tap. Dark amber with off white head. Aroma of passion fruit, caramel, and sugar. Flavor is rich and balanced. Fantastic mosaic hop fruitiness and malty balance. Solid.

Tap at Stout Brothers. Clear orange pour with a soapy head. Killer aroma and taste of wonderful Mosaic hops. Love this.

Steady handed brew. Aroma is nothing new or exciting. Taste is much better with tangy hop resin and faintly sweet malt bill that has a nice linger. I was worried that some onion aromas or flavors might be present, but if anything it’s maybe a little grassy. Finish is pretty bitter (ipa like) and pleasant. As Bubbles would say, "that’s decent, boys!"

Medium body floral rye bready backbone. Sweet malty almost licorice finish. Ruby red as the can states. Interesting and quite tasty sampling. Cheers!

Can with Paul. Pours a murky Amber with soapy off white lacing. Aroma is funky floral hop. Mouthfeel is medium to light with notes of funky hop, soap, lemon, blueberries and pine. Nice!
