in ipa, huh? yeah ok. so i kinda get that, though it was more like a pale ale with a weird grassy herbal note. a clean bright finish. interesting, but not something id want very often.

22 ounce bottle. Thanks Anthony! Pours a golden orange with a small white head. Aroma of citrus, florals, fruit, and spice. Taste is citrus, green tea, spice, florals, and malt. Very interesting.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 CaptainCougar (7093) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - APR 2, 2013
22oz bottle: pours a slightly hazy deep golden with a stringy-lacing white head. Has a lightly sweet pale malty nose with some floral perfumy hop notes and a touch of green tea. Starts with pretty good fullness and light effervescence with a mild pale sweetness and good resiny hop flavor before a drier bittersweet finish. Has some unique characteristics while maintaining good drinkability and balance.

Lightly hazed almost orange pour with light white head. Aroma is orange zest and light bread/cracker. Zest, light funky maltiness, and a good bitter finish. A very odd/good after taste clings on the back of the tongue. Smooth full/medium body with good carbonation. A nice break from the norm.

Tap at Max’s Taphouse. Pours clear amber with a small, fizzy white head, short retention with light lacing. Aroma is green tea, earthy and grassy hops with biscuit malt and pear esters . Flavor is bitter green tea, fruity esters, supporting malt, medium hops and bitterness with a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 FatWater (19) - Martinez, Georgia, USA - MAR 4, 2013
Tasty IPA. Aroma of light fruits and berries. Golden and cloudy in color with a decent head. Tastes of hops and berries, with an almost cool, minty, crisp finish. Very light and drinkable on the palate. Overall a very good brew!
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 glennmastrange (1884) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - FEB 17, 2013
Bottle. Light to moderate malt and hop notes of grain, flowers and herbs, light dough for the yeast, and a hint of peach in the background. Head is small, frothy, white with no lacing and is fully diminishing. Color is hazy amber/orange. Flavor starts lightly sweet and lightly to moderately acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and lightly to moderately bitter. Palate medium, watery with a lively carbonation. A tasty beer, but I’m not really getting IPA out of this, and I noticed no ginger and it was a reach to find green tea.

Out of the recent Side Projects, I think this one was the closest to a success, with very interesting notes of tea, subtle hints of ginger, and a good amount of hoppiness to remind you that, yes, you’re drinking a beer. Creative, while not sacrificing style standbys.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 chickenflea (280) - Oviedo, Florida, USA - FEB 15, 2013
22oz bottle, purchased for $8 from Total Wine. Poured into a snifter. Awesome noticeably ginger aroma, and green tea. It’s like an Arizona Tea concoction with alcohol and floral hops featured. Lower carbonation, above average body. Texture is more right on for a double IPA. Good herbal mildly soapy hop aroma. Complex, light bitter, with some zest. Amber/orange color made hazy by lots of particles suspended in the body. Very creative take on an IPA. Reminds me of a mango IPA from Cigar City. Smooth and balanced. Excellent, interesting brew. Would love to revisit.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 DocLock (6789) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 7, 2013
Bomber from Capone’s. Pours turbid orange with 1-finger clingy off-white head. Nose is sesame oily resiny hops, ginger, floral spice, tropical citrus fruit, and pale ricey malt. Tastes dry, bitter, tannic, with resiny hops, pine, sorachi hops, and a high IBU level with hops that never let up and a definite Asian flair. This one would be perfect with won ton soup and extra spicy hunan pork.
