Taking the Orient and the rest of the world by storm, Krunkles returns! In this edition of the bearded IPA brewerís saga, ďSamurai Krunkles,Ē as he was once known in the Far East, pulls out all the hops from his katanaís sheath to make this Asian flared brew. While traveling around the Pacific in a souped up rickshaw pulled by his trusty side kick Cato, Krunkles uncovered unique brewing ingredients such as jasmine rice, jasmine green tea and the finest ginger the Orient had to offer for this Samurai masterís ale. 22 ounce bottle - $7.99 at Bullockís Wine & Spirits in Marietta, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a clouded, faded golden-orange body with a small-sized, brief, off-white head. Head dies off rather rapidly, though there remains little slivers of lace on the descent.

Smell: The malts remain modest in aroma, just some pale malted graininess, serving to send up the varied hop notes, some citric citrus fruit rinds, pointed florals, and vague, encompassing earthiness. Light hints of the green tea, rice, and ginger -- Iím surprised Iím noting the green tea as well as I am and also surprised itís far less gingery than anticipated.

Taste: Pale malts, faintly bready and with a bit of cooked sugar for a small amount of short-lived sweetness. Floral, brightly citrusy hops along with the green tea. Very low hint of jasmine rice. Florals, earthiness, citrus, green tea, and a meager sprinkling of ginger swirl around with the hop bitterness until the drying, soft finish with a linger earthy, spicy, bitter quality in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Medium body. Medium carbonation. Soft mouthfeel.

Overall: An India Pale Ale with some interesting additives. A little ginger goes a long way for me, so Iím glad it remains fairly subtle.

22 oz. bottle. Pours a slightly hazy dark golden color with a medium sized white head. The aroma is sweet malts, floral, herbal tea and light citrus. The flavor has moderately sweet caramel, light toast, floral, herbal tea and light citrus. This is an interesting spin, but not my favorite from these guys.

Pours a golden color with a medium sized head. Head is off white. Wasnít sure what type of beer this was when I purchased it! Found out it is an IPA. Tasty. Nice slight hop with a balanced finish. Decent drink.

Bomber. Itís hard for me to go huge on aroma (its pleasant, but it doesnít blow you away), appearance (nice soft golden orange pour, small white head), palate (moderate density, light carbonation), and taste (easy drinking, and the tea elements stand out), but I need to give this props via the overall score category because this just rocks. Flavorful, interesting, light and easy drinking - this would be stellar on a hot summer day, with food, sharing at a tasting, whatever. Terrapin captured excellence without excess here. Iím very impressed with this beer.

Bomber from ABC in Spring Hill. Pours a hazy yellow with green highlights and a white head. Nose is light wheat bread, green tea, jasmine, and some light grapefruit. Flavor is similar with rice, light wheat, green tea, and mild jasmine. Medium in body with lingering grapefruit rind and green tea.

Asian in the front, light IPA in the back... Sniff it hard and you get the Asian flair from the tea, ginger helps balance but I donít pick any up on the flavor because of the fresh hop flavor. Body is light, from the rice? I would say take this and use this for exactly what it is, a nice summer brew with an Asian mindset... Great with Pad Thai?

Light brown color, aroma is light and earthy. Taste is very neutral. Hits with hops, light on the palate. Lots of flavors: green tea, citrus, and floral notes but for the most part they equal each other out.

Pint pour if deep gold with full white fluffed head. Nose is somewhat sweet, light hop, citrus. Flavor is light hop, tropical fruit of light pineapple and coconut? Ginger and jasmine are somewhat present with green tea notes. Not great. Nice body with light lacing.

I enjoyed this more than I expected to, to be honest. The green tea and ginger really stand out in both the aroma and taste, and it really balances out the hop bitterness. Pretty refreshing, actually.

From a 22 oz bottle shared at home. Pours almost clear dark god with a white head. Pine aroma. Notes of vickís vaporub and spruce. Initial bitter finish jousting with a sweetish floral hop flavor.
