Taking the Orient and the rest of the world by storm, Krunkles returns! In this edition of the bearded IPA brewer’s saga, “Samurai Krunkles,” as he was once known in the Far East, pulls out all the hops from his katana’s sheath to make this Asian flared brew. While traveling around the Pacific in a souped up rickshaw pulled by his trusty side kick Cato, Krunkles uncovered unique brewing ingredients such as jasmine rice, jasmine green tea and the finest ginger the Orient had to offer for this Samurai master’s ale. From the 11/2012 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a brown bottle this beer poured a bright golden color with a small white head that faded and left minimal lacing. The aroma was tart and must citrus, bubblegum and pinecones. The flavor was strong pine, resin and pinecones with notes of spruce and pepper. Long finish of pine, resin and spruce. Medium body.

Bomber. Poured cloudy orangish-golden with a creamy off-white head. The aroma picked up juicy mango, orange, and herbal notes over caramel and lesser biscuity notes.. ginger came through as it warmed.. interesting stuff. The flavor found bitter tea and orange zest over mostly biscuity malt.. tea and ginger really ramped up on the back and through the finish.. not my favorite flavors, but interesting and well-done. Medium-bodied with a lot of tea character on the palate.. moderate carbonation.. solid brew.

Floral with notes of ginger and fruit in the peaches range. Deep golden with a small white head. Balanced with notes of floral hops balanced by the ginger and fruit flavors. Medium plus bodied with a balanced finish.

Had this at the 2012 Great American Beer Fest in Denver, Colorado. Has a little funk, not a favorite.

Tallahassee, Fl - Liquor Loft - 22 oz bottle. Pours a sparkling light copper with s sticky fluffy white head that leaves plenty of lacing. Minty aroma with hints of green tea. Flavor has a fruity backbone with a pear-like essence. Some ginger notes makes their way through, some juicy fruit gum, a bit of unknown spice. Mouthfeel has a nice spritz to it.

Bomber from Sam’s, Durham. The overbearing cuteness of this theme is already making me think negatively about this beer, before it’s even in the fridge. Cloudy orange pour with a moderate head. Nose is spicy from the ginger and muddled from the tea, without much sense that this is actually an IPA. Mouthfeel is fairly lively, with crisp carbonation tend to accentuate the spiciness even further. Some hops do come through but they’re more or less generically bitter, without much personality. Kind of like this beer.

22oz bottle, purchased for $9 from Beer Run. Poured into a snifter. Awesome noticeably ginger aroma, and green tea. Creamy, smooth, lighter carbonation, above average body. Good herbal mildly soapy hop aroma. Light lemon. Seeing the rice pudding. Definitely floral. Light wheat. Complex, light bitter, with some zest. Amber/orange color made hazy by lots of particles suspended in the body. Awesome, creative take on an IPA. More enjoyable than Stone’s green tea attempt, from what I remember... This is much more smooth and balanced. Excellent, interesting brew. Would love to revisit.
