COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Terrapin Side Project #9: The Dark Side, a Belgian Style Imperial Stout. Come on over to "The Dark Side" for the latest brew in the Terrapin "Side Project" series. Brewed with evil intentions, this Belgian Style Imperial Stout is made with copious amounts of dark grains that make this beer as dark as the underside of Vader’s cape. "The Dark Side" is fermented with a unique Belgian yeast strain which sets this Imperial Stout light years ahead of its time.

Received in trade from brentk56, thanks for the opportunity! Pours a solid black with a huge tan head that Slowly subsides and leaves lots of stickies. The aroma is not what I expected, lots of caramel, chocolate, earth, and dark fruits, not much roast or Belgian yeast inspired esters. The flavor compensates with a bit of roast coffee and chocolate up front. Some caramel and dark cherries and raisins round out the flavor nicely but still not much in the way of Belgian inspiration. Medium to thick body with a spirited level of carbonation and a sweet creamy tart fruity type mouthfeel. This is a nice stout, it has a foreign extra meets quad kind of feel to it. The Belgian influence is subtle, but it works. This was probably a little better when fresh, I wish I hadn’t lost this one in the back of the stack.

Black pour with a tan head. The aroma is full of roasted malt with some licorice and yeast notes. The flavor is similar. I get some heavy chocolate and roasted malt, which is complimented by some yeast and licorice. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Another nice side project beer from Terrapin.

The smell is malts, chocolate, roast, cocoa, and malts. The look is dark, brown in color, and has a beige colored head. The taste is malty, roast, cocoa, chocolate, and good.

Interesting beer...a Belgian Style Imperial stout and it was! Dark colored with a brown head. The aroma was strong Belgian (banana, yeast, a little bit of raisin). The taste surprised adding more roasted flavor and some chocolate presence. Interesting dark fruit and cherry tartness in there as well. Creamy mouthfeel. Interesting beer, though not the best I’ve ever had, worth it if you get a shot.

Bottle shared all the way back at Ye Olde EBF 2010 hotel room tasting. Light sweet chocolate notes, some belgian esters, but most notable a fruity character that is in fact reminiscent of an export stout rather than the Imperial Stout this should probably be listed under.

Bottle shared at Woodshop 7. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Fruity and sweet with plum/raisin/date/prune. Cocoa and chocolate with very little roast. Very Belgian and estery.

Bottle, 22oz. A very dark brown body is topped by a small, beige head. Chocolate, coffee and something reminiscent of molasses in the aroma. A whiff of alcohol too. The flavor has a pleasant addition of resiny hops trying to bring some balance, but it’s still more on the dark malty side with chocolate, coffee and a touch of molasses. Full body, soft carbonation. Tasteful and pleasant. 111209

22 ounce bottle that pours a dark brown, almost black color, aromas of soy sauce, coffee, caramel, and some light molasses. Flavors follow suit, with som light chocolate.

Originally reviewed: 5/13/10. This beer pours a deep dark black with a thin tan head on top. No retention, no lace. Big scents of roasted malts, cocoa, wine, and a bit of char. The mouth is smooth but a little thin at times. Nice chocolatey flavors right away, some vinous grapes, and a little yeast on the finish. This is a good stout. Good beer.
