3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz. bottle from Secret Santa. Sounds awesome, thanks man! Pours a very dark brown with a medium tan head that settles a bit, but lasts decently. Aroma of apples, pears, mild roast, chocolate and tobacco. Mild notes of earth and leather. Flavor is fruity, roasty, with some yeast and mild hops. Some chocolate, lots of pears, apples and fruit. Notes of wheat. Pretty interesting. Full mouthfeel. Nice carbonation. This beer has a lot going on and it actually works. This was pretty cool to drink.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nearly black opaque pour with a decent sized tan head.
The aroma is dominantly roast malt, but a touch of spice comes through - just barely though.
The flavor follows the aroma pretty much. There is a little spice in it, but this goes into the Porter category in my opinion, rather than a Saison.
Not fitting into one or another style doesn’t make this a bad beer however.

22 oz. bottle via trade - Pours a dark brown color with a small light tan head. Light lacing. Aroma is herbal hops, esters, spice, and light yeast. Flavor is pretty much the same with the addition of some lightly sweetened roasted malt. Medium body. I liked this one.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
22 oz bottle. Pitch black color, larger white head that shrank down to a thin layer with good lace. Nose is a combination of dark grain, fruit esters and Rye bread. Taste is mostly a traditional saison. Lots of barnyard funk, Belgian spice and a touch of dark fruit. Nothing about this makes me say “WOW!, I got to drink more.” Nice to try but after the first glass I was over it.

From the 22oz bottle. Pours black with a tan head. Estery Belgian yeast notes, roasted grain and hints of clove and herbal hops. Taste is similar, lots if great Belgian yeast character, roasted grain notes, spicy rye and fragrant herbal notes. Really nice brew.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pitch black, 99% opaque with only the slightest bit of light getting through at the top on the edges when held directly to the light, with a very thin, fast-dying creamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, wheat, yeast, a touch of grass and hay, but the scents are dominated by the roasty malt and some caramel. Medium-bodied; Creamy, malty flavour with a dash of herbal and barnyardie flavours then followed immediately by cream, caramel, wheat and roasted malt. Aftertaste shows some complexity with more of a sweet stout style with lactic flavours more noticeable than a herbal, grassy saison type vibe. Overall, an interesting beer that wasn’t a direct hit, nor a miss, but given the chance again, I’d buy this beer to try again - so if you see this, pick it up! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Liquor Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 08-May-2011 sampled at home in Washington on 07-June-2011.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Knightly Spirits. Thumbnail of brown head that reduces to fizzle. Dark-as-night body. Tight curtains Robust plum and coffee aroma with a hint of soapy yeast. Flavors continue with more plum, subtle coffee and chocolate, soapy barnyard yeast up front with subtle pine resin in the finish. High carbonation and medium body. Slightly off-balanced but this was an enjoyable brew.
