COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tomfoolery “Black Saison” is the latest addition to our Side Project series of beers. Number 14 on the list, this ale boasts an uncharacteristic black color for a traditional Saison, but is just untraditional enough for our experimental mentality. Made with a silly amount of rye, wheat and black malts, this dark spicy beverage will quench the thirst of any court jester in the land. We hope you enjoy our light hearted attempt at making this traditional style with foolish brewing behavior. Spike’s Brewing Words of Wisdom: Beer is serious business…what you do after consumption often times is not.

Bomber from Capone’s. Pours black with off-tan head and early lacing that goes away. Nose is black malt, banana, dark fruit, hops. Tastes dry, black malty, with cacao, banana, hops, citrus, and a very dry overall mouthfeel with late roastiness. Not bad, but a bit odd.

Bomber from michael-pollack. Pours pretty black with a fizzy tan head. Nice aroma of roast or rye malt with some spice and fruit. Med+ body with strong carbonation. The first impact is dark fruit, then a bit of earthiness, some fruit/floral hop, and some peppery spice pops up. Pretty good beer.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Buy Rite - Jersey City, 4/5/11

Aroma: The aroma has spice, clove, pepper, yeast, caramel, chocolate, light fruit, biscuit, and grass
Appearance: The pour is fairly dark brown color with a creamy lighter brown colored head
Flavor: A mix of what’s in the nose, decent sweetness and decent hops, with a prominent spiciness
Palate: The body is medium, it has a nice drinkability, lively carbonation, and a somewhat dry finish
Overall Impression: Another interesting attempt from the Terrapin Side Project Series, I tend to find most of their Side Project beers to be anywhere from drinkable to good. This one was quite nice. An enjoyable dark saison.

Purple brown color with a small, light tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of dark fruits, light citrus, roast, and spices. Taste of dark fruits, dark malts, citrus, tart wheat, raisins, and a dry finish.

Bomber pours very dark brown with full chocolate milk shake head. The aroma offers up black grapes, blueberries, prunes, a touch of cloves, yeast and a faint lemon sense. The taste is similar with sweet black grapes, blueberries, prunes and clove like spices all mixing together. It gets a touch apple like to midway creating a bit more complexity and depth. Well off in the background is a sense of dark roasted malts.

Biscuit, grain, some wheat, and a little grassiness in the nose. Flavor is smooth and sweet, nice malt body to it. Finish is toasty grain again with a bit of a yeast bite to the back of the palate. A little spice in there too. Nice beer.
