3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Atheist_Peace (698) - Halifax, Nova Scotia, - DEC 3, 2011650ml bottle. Very dark with a pink/purple edge and very little head. Super malty nose. Lots of molasses and stewed fruit with a brandy edge. A little licorice too. There’s a touch of funk but mostly it’s the same as the nose on the palate. A little thick.

22oz bomber. Pours a nearly black color with two fingers of tan head. Aroma is similar to a normal saison. Spicy and fruity, but with some roasted coffee notes. Taste follows the nose. Fruity, spicy, with a slight roasted coffee/chocolate taste throughout.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 phaleslu (4429) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - AUG 22, 2012
22 oz. bottle via trade last year. Pours a hazy brown-amber with a small tan head. Aroma of olives, earth, chocolate, toasted malts, cola, hints of fruit and mild rye-like spice. Flavor of earthy funk, cola, root beer, rye, toasted malts, and tobacco. Medium-bodied, with an earthy mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. I know it’s a "dark saison" but it doesn’t drink like a saison at all. It’s somehow all over the place without having much of a distinct aroma or flavor.

Served out of a 22 oz. in a tulip glass. Big foam that took a little while to settle down and some nice lacing down the side. Dark brown, opaque beer (what would you expect from a Balck Saison) that semlls of darker fruits (think raisins and curants). Starts with the french saison, yeasty taste that moves into those darker fruits and finishes with amost a chocolate malty taste. Everything in it seems a bit muted, though, and none of the flavors really "pop" to give it that soemthing extra and memorable. Overall, a pleasant, good beer that is easy-drinking and nice for moving into the Fall months.

Another beer in their side project series. I really enjoyed the Big Daddy Vladdy Russian Impy Stout so I was looking forward to this one. Growler Fill. Pours a dark black which is just plain weird to me especially since this is a saison. Medium brown head. Lacing barely present. Aromas are very different, with alot of roasted vegetable notes and slight farmhouse funk at the back end. Taste is malty chocolate, celary, spicy rye. This was my first black saison that I have tried and I cant say that I will search out this style again. I appreciate Terrapin taking a chance and will continue to support this Georgian brewer. Cheers

The beer pours a dark brown to black color with a tan head. The aroma has a lot of dark fruit and Belgian yeast notes, as well as some pepper and some light cocoa. The flavor is similar. The dark fruit and cherries come through up front, with some yeast, lemons, orange and caramel malt also being present. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Poured from a 22 ounce bomber. Roasted spicy malts, spicy yeast, earthy hops. A spicy yeasty Belgian stout. Very nice and easy drinking.

22 oz. bottle shared with the local crew. Pours dark brown color with a medium sized fine beige head. The aroma is an interesting mix of roasted malts, spicy rye, peppers, bananas, hints of tart and funk. The flavor has much of the same with the roast and perhaps a faint touch of coffee. Spicy rye, herbal, light fruits offer a mix that doesn’t seem like a saison. Light to medium bodied, not quite creamy. Strange combination but worth trying once.

Bottle at Akkurat, April 2012.
Black with a medium tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, yeast and some light fruity notes. The taste was quite interesting with roasted notes, some smoke, yeast and a touch of funk. Descent stuff.

Thin fizzy black saison. Taste is boring a watery with light esters. I dont know about this one. I want to like it but its just dull and bland. Light spice of rye save this one.
