Thick, creamy mouthfeel. Taste dominated by coffee and mild notes of chocolate. I like this years version better than ’06. TheRimmer (483), Florida, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jan 3, 2008 Pours like motor oil. Literally. Pure syrup. Coffee dominates the aroma. Only a hint of chocolate and smoke permeate. Black as night. The mouthfeel is pure velvet, pure whole cream. Coffee is the primary flavor. As it warms chocolate, burnt coffee, molasses come out. Finishes with smoke roasty and full and light chocolate. kkearn (1000), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

Poured pitch black with a very small tan head that dissipated quickly. Big roasted malt and coffee aroma, with molasses and some vinous notes. The flavor is sweet up front with milk chocolate, oats, and some vanilla, with coffee entering the picture towards the finish. Long, dry finish, with some roasted coffee bitterness lingering on the palate. Really nice stout. slimchill (779), Austin, Texas, USA

Absolutely black with no head. Just thick and serious. Aroma is espresso with light chocolate notes. Flavor is much of the same, deep roasty coffee and sweet chocolate. Creamy palate, smooth with a little bite in the finish. Really wonderful beer, unique and delicious. mrandypandy (2), Sandy Springs, Georgia, USA does not count | 1.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 4/20 | Jan 1, 2008 From a 12oz bottle. Pours thick and black, like motor oil. Minimal head, aroma of heavy coffee and a little bit "off." Can’t quite put my finger on it. Taste is off as well, kind of like old coffee grinds, and not very good ones at that.
Overall, extremely disappointed with this beer. I’ve had it in years past when it was actually called "Wake-n-Bake", but this is just bad. wilkie (1191), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 1, 2008 Bottle. Pours dark, with ruby edges, and has a small brown head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, and roasted malts. Flavor is very malty, chocolate, coffee, slight cream. Little bit of bitterness from the roasted malt, aftertaste of saccharin. jsquire (2107), St. Marys, Ohio, USA

Nose of espresso coffee, toffee and bitter chocolate. The flavor is also dominated by the coffee, with lots of chocolate, white sugar, caramel corn, vanilla and butter. Smooth, almost slick, mouthfeel. Big beer with tons of flavor. If you like your coffee and your beer at the same time, this is your drink. CaptBier (302), Birmingham, Alabama, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 30, 2007 Bottle. Pours a thick black with no head at all. Very fragrant aroma of something almost like sweet cream and of course coffee. Very easy to drink and enjoy flavor to it and easy on the palate. I like it a lot.
