Pours a thick black with a small tan head that forms after the glass is set down. Quickly to a small ring that leaves some spotty lacing. Big powerful aroma and flavor of coffee and dark chocolate. Roasted. The oatmeal works in very well. As I get to the bottom of the glass, I start to get more dark fruits coming through in the aroma. The intensity of the aroma and flavor is turned up a notch on this one...you taste it long after you sip it. There is some alcohol but it fits in nicely. Very rich, smooth, and creamy...delicious and extremely enjoyable. Not a session beer by any means, this is a heavy brew but fits the style very well. Gonna hafta get s’more of this...
EDIT: As I whittle down my stock of the ’06 batch, I just want to note that this is pouring with virtually no head and very low carbonation which is in contrast with many reviews here. Perhaps it is the ’06 vintage? I dunno. If it was very carbonated I wouldn’t rate it as high as I prefer my stouts to be thick, rich and low in carbonation and what I have here fits the bill perfectly. I’d put this right up there with the Great Divide Yeti and Victory Storm King stouts available here in my area. A wonderful brew and I’m looking forward to this winter’s batch. yngwie (4970), Kristiansand, Norway

Black, and nothing but black, pour, under a nice brown head. Heavily roasted aroma with lots of coffee, bitter chocolate and hops. It also smells a bit dusty. Just wonderful. Coffee is very much present in the flavor as well, with chocolate, smoke-notes, alcohol, roasted malt and some vanilla. Warming, full-bodied beer, quite oily texture, with a dry, chocolate-bitter finish. What a treat! The aroma is something you can enjoy forever, I can still "imagine" it, more than a month after I had the beer. The flavor is a bit weaker, but definately not weak. Just lovely. ) kujo9 (1077), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA

Coffee & chocolate chip cookie dough, and brown sugar immediately jump into my nose. Toaste malt & a bit of alcohol along w/ a light raisiny ester. Full, nutty aroma from oatmeal. Well balanced and coffee dominant; Nutty, chocolate, caramel, but no real dark fruitiness. Toasted malt and a semi dry finish that tastes like toasted marshmallows w/ chocolate. No real acidity from the dark grains... smooth flavor. Aftertaste is smooth chocolatey roasted grains. Smooth, velvety texture, well hidden alcohol, medium body; CO2 a bit high for me, but smooths out once it breaths and warms a bit. Pretty good once the carbonation gasses out a bit to help smooth out the texture and flavor. I’m glad I brought some home! mcbackus (742), Merritt Island, Florida, USA

Pours a large, frothy deep brown head atop an opaque body. Nose of robust molasses with trailings of soya sauce and coffee. Flavour is incredibly potent with chocolate making a strong appearance and coffee intertwined. Very smooth, vanilla-ish with an oily texture. Definitely one of the best IS I’ve had. craftbeerdesign (752), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA

Terrapins best beer IMO. Alldaydrinker (558), Norwood, Massachusetts, USA
