UPDATED: MAY 30, 2014 2013 poured into a sniffer. Nothing like a little lunchtime beer to break up the monotony of a rainy Friday afternoon. Thick dark brown pour with a thin tannish head. Pouring it in the light, it had a bit of a deep maroon color to it as it came out of the bottle. Aroma hits you as your pouring it. Deep roasted malts, dark chocolate, brown sugar, licorice, vanilla, soy sauce and earthy aromas. Much more complex of an aroma than I remember from this beer. Its been over a year since Ive had one though. Flavor is more bold than expected as well. Charcoal, roasted malts, soy sauce, hints of bitter coffee on the back-end. Very bold flavors. As it warms up the coffee is becoming more prevalent which balances out the flavor a little more nicely. Feels thick in the mouth, nice carbonation.

12 ounce bottle poured into a brandy snifter. Pours a thick black with a khaki colored head of foam that dissipates down to a ring of foam around the edge of the glass. The aroma is like sweetened coffee and hot chocolate powder. Some toffee notes come through as well. In the taste, i am overloaded with sweetness. Its kind of like a rich, intense caramel. Kind of like one of those sugary coffee and whipped cream drinks from starbucks that has caramel drizzled on top of the whipped cream. Thats what it reminds me of. Thick and sticky mouthfeel. Low carbonation. As the beer begins to warm, the coffee gets less and less appealing as it tastes more and more stale. This just isnt doing much for me, unfortunately.

Pours deep dark brown/black with a decent sized mocha head that settles down fairly quickly and leaves some spotty lace. Nose involves a nice blast of roast coffee and milk chocolate, almost some hot pepper notes, some underlying dried dark fruit, some crusty brown bread, nearly some pipe tobacco, some marshmallow, some evergreen and mint. Quite sweet, also quite a bit bitter. Rich, full body, creamy, velvet yet a fair prickly carb, oily yet finishing pretty dry and toasty with lingering roasted marshmallow notes. Very good brew, lots to love about this one.

Shared 12 oz. bottle, poured to snifters, and showed a black/brown hue, sudsy, brownish tan head foam, and spots & strands of lacing. The nose was roasted, with a little stale scent, burnt, dry, and more cocoa notes than coffee. The flavor was roasted, with a dry, lingering bitterness, day old coffee taste, medium body, low carbonation, and hidden alcohol. Not bad, but by no means great.

There is something that does not convince me from this brewery. I recognize it is a good work but the taste is just not my type. Very nice and thick, some bitterness to high and creamy.

12 oz bottle, thanks to jtclockwork. 9.4% ABV. Pours thick, viscous and headless, nearly black. Aroma is dominated by coffee, along with graham cracker and milk chocolate. Smells like a cookie, though maybe that image is planted unfairly by the grandma turtle on the label. Taste: Sweetened coffee, with an unpleasant metallic tone. Taste lingers sweetly, with bitter bite and lasting sweet chocolatey finish. Some raisins are in there as well -- oatmeal raisin chocolate chip cookie, with metal wrapper partially intact? Full body, thick, viscous texture. Overall: cool beer. Id drink this for breakfast on a lazy Saturday morning where I could go back to bed for a nice morning nap.

Pours a very dark brown. Big ground coffee bean aroma. Very roasty. That oatmeal creates a nice smoothness. Then it transitions to a dry finish with coffee acidity to it.

Pours an opaque very dark brown with a short mocha-tan colored head. Knee buckling aromas of smoky coffee, chilis, olive, and greasy spoon griddle grease. Full body, slightly coating mouthfeel. Flavors approximate the nose, but scaled back a bit. Very well blended. Best terrapin Ive had by far.

2013 edition. 12 oz. bottle poured into snifter. Pitch black with finger of dense tan cap that dissipates in a few moments. Rich, roasty malt and coffee aroma. Very nice slightly sweet coffee flavor... kind of like Kahlua. Good viscous mouthfeel. A well-executed coffee stout.
